Why was Lucius Malfoy at Borgin and Burkes

Lucius Malfoy was furious over the Muggle Protection Act as the Ministry of Magic started inspections without notice in search of forbidden objects of dark magic.

The Muggle Protection Act was proposed by Ron’s father Arthur Weasley and aimed to protect muggles from encountering magical objects with dark magic. Lucius Malfoy had to dispose all his forbidden objects of dark magic and visited Borgin and Burkes.

Plot of Lucius Malfoy

The original plans of Lucius Malfoy was to use Tom Riddle’s Diary to open the Chamber of Secrets during Harry’s second year at Hogwarts.

Dobby somehow overheard this plan and attempted to stop Harry Potter from attending Hogwarts once he knew about Lucius Malfoy’s plans. Luckily, for Lucius Malfoy, he encounters the Weasley family and Harry Potter at Diagon Alley.

Lucius Malfoy slips the diary of Tom Riddle into Ginny’s books which Harry noticed. Lucius Malfoy plotted to open the Chamber of Secrets and sabotage Arthur Weasley in revenge of the Muggle Protection Act as his daughter Ginny Weasley would be accused of opening it.

Lucius Malfoy also attempted to overthrow Headmaster Professor Albus Dumbledore for the incidents of the Chamber of Secrets. Surprisingly, it is supposed that Lucius Malfoy wasn’t hostile to Harry Potter as he only heard stories from his son Draco Malfoy.

Among the dark wizards and witches, there were rumors that Harry Potter survived Lord Voldemort because Harry was a much more powerful wizard so potentially Lucius wasn’t hostile until Harry Potter stopped his plans with the Chamber of Secrets.

Yet, after Lucius Malfoy’s plot failed by the heroics of Harry Potter and his friends and was embarrassed in front of Albus Dumbledore that he spited, Lucius Malfoy realizes Harry Potter was never going to side by him.

Also, Harry Potter set up a trap by freeing Dobby when Lucius Malfoy threw a hidden sock of the destroyed Tom Riddle’s Diary.

Dobby caught this sock from the air and he was freed. In the movie, it Lucius hands over the diary to Dobby without noticing it hid Harry’s sock. Lucius Malfoy was even more furious of Harry Potter and held a grudge on him.

Lucius Malfoy

By this point of the Harry Potter series, it seemed Lord Voldemort was associated with the Malfoy family. Lucius Malfoy knew that the diary of Tom Riddle was somehow able to open the Chamber of Secrets but he never knew that it was closely associated with Lord Voldemort.

The Malfoy family was one of the Sacred-Twenty-Eight pure-blood families that supported wizard and witch supremacy over muggles.

Lucius Malfoy wasn’t working for the Ministry of Magic but the Malfoy family held extreme wealth and Lucius Malfoy had deep connections with the Ministry of Magic.

Lucius Malfoy long served for the Board of Governors of Hogwarts and became chairman of the board of governors.

Lucius Malfoy wanted to send Draco Malfoy to Durmstrang Institute of Magic as Durmstrang was more friendly to dark magic.

However, Lucius Malfoy’s wife and Draco Malfoy’s mother Narcissa didn’t want Draco to live too faraway so they’ve sent Draco to Hogwarts. Lucius Malfoy and Narcissa Malfoy were both Slytherin House and Lucius Malfoy was a talented wizard and was also prefect at his fifth grade. He was part of an elite club named the Slugclub.

Dobby, the house-elf of the Malfoy family

Dobby served the Malfoy family but he tried to warn and stop Harry Potter from going back to Hogwarts as he found out that Lucius Malfoy plotted to open the Chamber of Secrets.

Unlike ordinary house-elves, Dobby had a sense of independence which house-elves though was a disgrace. House-elves were a species that took pride in service with loyalty to their master’s to an extent that the greatest insult to house-elf was offering them a reward for their service.

Dobby technically didn’t disobey any orders of the Malfoy family though. Presenting a piece of cloth or fabric granted freedom to house-elf which was one of the most dreadful events imaginable for ordinary house-elves. Harry Potter set up a trap that eventually granted freedom to Dobby from the Malfoy family.

Why did Dobby help Harry Potter?

Dobby was an unusual house-elf. Although he did like working, he wanted compensation for his work even though it would be very small. He wanted to have something in return for his labor even if it was something very small.

This idea was considered one of the foulest disgraces among house-elves. Dobby heard stories of the boy who survived you-know-who and fantasized Harry Potter.

Under the tyranny of Lord Voldemort and the idea of wizard and witch supremacy, house-elves were even more brutally mistreated and abused. Stories of Harry Potter surviving Voldemort’s attack inspired Dobby. After Dobby heard of Lucius Malfoy’s plans to open the Chamber of Secrets,

Dobby who still was loyal to the Malfoy Family risked himself to protect Harry Potter although Dobby’s actions were more unpleasant to Harry Potter.

Dobby tried to protect Harry Potter by enchanting Petunia’s pudding (Petunia’s cake in the movie), blocking Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, and manipulating a bludger to injure Harry Potter in hopes that would send him back to the Dursley’s.

Severus Snape and the Malfoy’s

Lucius Malfoy was the prefect of Slytherin House when Severus Snape first joined Hogwarts. Lucius Malfoy was very kind to Severus Snape and helped him out a lot during their school years.

Severus Snape was probably more generous to Draco Malfoy thanks to the support that Lucius Malfoy gave to Snape during Snape’s school years at Hogwarts.
