Truth of the first opening of the Chamber of Secrets - 1943
Tom Marvolo Riddle or Lord Voldemort at 16 years old was responsible for opening the Chamber of Secrets. He framed Rubeus Hagrid and Aragog for the murder of the muggle born witch Myrtle Warren who becomes Moaning Myrtle.
While Tom Riddle was the Heir of Slytherin, he attempted to murder muggle born wizards and witches by the glares of the basilisk.
However, as the Board of Governors decided to shut down Hogwarts, headmaster Armando Dippet disavowed Tom Riddle’s request to stay at Hogwarts as Armando Dippet thought it was dangerous for all students.
Headmaster Armando Dippet didn’t know it was the crime of Tom Riddle. Tom Riddle or Lord Voldemort hated the Wool’s Orphanage that he had to stay and decided to shut off his murders and impute his crimes on Hagrid and Aragog the acromantula.
Acromantula were highly dangerous and carrying acromantula eggs or raising it was already a vicious crime itself so the faculty members of Hogwarts were convinced except for Transfiguration Professor Albus Dumbledore.
Rubeus Hagrid was expelled and Tom Riddle was awarded a thanks for Special Services to Hogwarts for resolving the Chamber of Secrets incident.
Only Albus Dumbledore was suspicious and he convinced the others so Hagrid could at least stay and be trained as the gamekeeper of Hogwarts. Rubeus Hagrid was banned from owning a wand as well which seems that Hagrid is secretly keeping one.
Tom Marvolo Riddle and Lord Voldemort
Tom Marvolo Riddle stayed at the Wool’s Orphanage and became thrilled when he found out he was a wizard. Despite himself stranded in an orphanage in the muggle world, Tom Riddle first though he was a pure-blood wizard and abominated muggles and muggle born wizards and witches.
He searched through all the records by the clue of his father’s name ‘Riddle’ but he couldn’t find any records of the last name ‘Riddle’. Tom Riddle attempts to find a clue of his heritage by his middle name ‘Marvolo’ and found out his mother’s bloodline was associated with magic.
Tom Riddle realizes he himself was a muggle mixed wizard that he abominated. Tom Riddle proclaimed himself Lord Voldemort from “I am Lord Voldemort” which was an anagram from his full name Tom Marvolo Riddle.
How did Tom Riddle find the Chamber of Secrets?
Tom Riddle, therefore refused to call himself Tom Riddle as he spited his muggle father’s blood line. Tom Riddle realizes that his mother’s family was associated with Salazar Slytherin and he discovers the Chamber of Secrets.
The entrance to the Chamber of Secrets was on the second-floor lady’s restroom which needed to say ‘Open’ in parselmouth. Tom Riddle or Lord Voldemort was a parseltongue inherited from Salzar Slytherin. He claimed himself as Heir of Slytherin.
Chamber of Secrets
Salazar Slytherin built the Chamber of Secrets before he left Hogwarts after his dispute with the other three founders Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Godric Gryffindor over his desire to only accept pure-blooded witches and wizards.
Salazar Slytherin hid a monster that would ‘purify’ Hogwarts by killing muggle-born wizards and witches and fulfill Salazar Slytherin’s will.
The creature itself wasn’t known but it turned out to be a basilisk controlled by the parseltongue Salazar Slytherin and his heir.
Tom Marvolo Riddle or Lord Voldemort once opened the Chamber of Secrets but over fears and his hatred on going back to the muggle world, Voldemort creates the Diary of Tom Riddle so later on he could fulfill his ‘duty’ as heir of Slytherin.
Ginny Weasley and the Tom Riddle’s Diary
Lord Voldemort gave the Diary of Tom Riddle to Lucius Malfoy. (How he was associatd isn’t revealed at this point) Lucius Malfoy only knew that Tom Riddle’s diary was the eky to open the Chamber of Secrets but nothing more.
Lucius Malfoy had plans to open the Chamber of Secrets but he had to discard Tom Riddle’s Diary and other dark magic artefacts because of the Ministry of Magic’s surprise search raids of illegal artefacts of dark magic.
The Muggle Protection Act proposed by Arthur Weasley was the cause of these surprise searches. Lucius Malfoy found an opportunity to slip Tom Riddle’s Diary into Ginny Weasley’s books which Harry Potter witnessed but didn’t know what would have happened.
Ginny Weasley wrote her feelings on Harry Potter so she was embarrassed to confess about Tom Riddle’s Diary.
She tried to dispose it but it would magically return every time she threw it away. Tom Riddle’s Diary manipulated Ginny in reopening the Chamber of Secrets, control the basilisk, write blackmails on the walls, and kill the chicken of Hogwarts because the cry of the rooster was the only known weakness of the basilisk.
Eventually Tom Riddle, or Lord Voldemort claimed and attempted that he could revive himself by sacrificing Ginny.
Why did Fawkes help Harry Potter?
Pheonix were a very sensitive magical creature with a difficult personality. Phoenixes including Fawkes would never help someone without their recognition. However, Fawkes helped Harry Potter by plucking the eyes of the basilisk so Harry Potter wouldn’t have to mind the death glance of the basilisk.
Also, Fawkes delivers the Sorting Hat that would reveal the Sword of Gryffindor and cure Harry Potter from his wounds by the Basilisks toxic fangs. Per the plot, Fawkes seemed to help Harry Potter as Harry Potter would revolt to Tom Riddle who claimed Lord Voldemort was the greatest sorcerer in the world that
“Albus Dumbledore is the greatest sorcerer in the world.”
After this quote, Fawkes recognizes Harry Potter and assisted him in killing the basilisk and destroying Tom Riddle’s diary.
Sword of Gryffindor
The Sword of Gryffindor was the descended sword that Godric Gryffindor himself carried. Legends say that only a ‘True Gryffindor’ could wield it when it is in desperate need.
Like Albus Dumbledore always said
“Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it”
The Sword of Gryffindor was always ready for a true Gryffindor when it is needed.
The Sword of Gryffindor was made of pure silver set with rubies. Goblins forged the Sword of Gryffindor and was considered one of the finest masterpieces that the goblins casted.
Pure goblin forged silver had the ability to absorb the magical abilities of an object that it has encountered. The Sword of Gryffindor also absorbs the power of the basilisk when it slayed the basilisk to death.
Why did the Sorting Hat have the Sword of Gryffindor
The Sorting Hat was also a possession of Godric Gryffindor. The Sword of Gryffindor was believed to reveal itself to a true Gryffindor out of the items of Godric Gryffindor.
Thus, the Sorting Hat itself as was one of Godric Gryffindor’s belongings could reveal the Sword of Gryffindor.
Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort
Harry Potter was confused on his identity and feared if he was like Lord Voldemort since the Sorting Hat tried to sort him into Slytherin at first.
Albus Dumbledore tells Harry Potter that some of Lord Voldemort’s powers were transferred to him during their encounter which explained why Harry could speak parsel tongue and was a parsel mouth.
Headmaster Dumbledore also tells Harry although there are some similarities and power that was directly transferred, the ‘choices’ that Harry Potter makes made him a totally different person from Lord Voldemort. However, Albus Dumbledore’s word meant more than Harry Potter and the readers would expect.
Albus Dumbledore realizes what Lord Voldemort has done.
Albus Dumbledore knew that ordinary dark magic couldn’t retain certain memories or possessed the power to manipulate wizards and witches.
Albus Dumbledore thought that Tom Riddle’s Diary was even extraordinary after hearing Harry’s stories that the Diary of Tom Riddle tried to sacrifice Ginny Weasley so it could resurrect Lord Voldemort.
He examines the properties of Tom Riddle’s Diary thoroughly and was terrified by these theories. Albus Dumbledore theorized that Tom Riddle’s Diary was made from a very powerful dark magic by Lord Voldemort.
Also, Dumbledore noticed that it was so poorly kept and treated without care as if it was a very common object.
He presumed that there were several more objects made by Lord Voldemort with this dark magic so he could spare the diary of Tom Riddle. Dumbledore assumed that if it was only the Diary of Tom Riddle, it would have been kept more secretly with extreme caution.
