Parsel tongue & Parsel mouth

Parsel tongue was the language of snakes and serpents in the magical world.

Parsel tongue was an unusual ability even in the wizarding world and there were rumors that many dark witches and dark wizard possessed the ability to speak parsel tongue and communicate with snakes and serpents.

A witch or wizard that could talk parsel tongue were called parsel mouths.

Harry Potter first showed off he was a parsel mouth when he spoke with a boa snake in the zoo while he first showed off that he could speak parsel tongue during the Dueling Club.

Right after Justin Finch-Fletchley who was the muggle born wizard from Hufflepuff House introduced himself to harry Potter, Draco Malfoy summoned a cobra that threatened Justin Finc-Fltechley.

Harry Potter spoke parsel tongue with the cobra to stop it from attacking Justin but the audience watching the Dueling Club started to misunderstand Harry as the Heir of Slytherin. The audience thought Harry urged the snake to attack the muggle born wizard Justin.

Heir of Salazar Slytherin

Salazar Slytherin greatly disagreed in accepting muggle-born students to Hogwarts and clashed with the other three founders of Hogwarts, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff and Godric Gryffindor.

Eventually, Salazar Slytherin left Hogwarts but he secretly made the Chamber of Secrets and sealed it with a basilisk in hopes that it would eliminate muggle-born students in Hogwarts.

He thought that one day, his heir would open this Chamber of Secrets and fulfill his ambitions. Whether Salazar Slytherin meant a direct descendant of himself or if he meant a wizard or witch with ambitions and capabilities comparable with himself as an heir of Slytherin is unknown.

The Chamber of Secrets was considered just a mere legend until after about 1,000 years it really opened.

Acromantula – spider like magical creature

The magical creature with a form of a spider was called an Acromantula. Acromantula were similar to tarantulas, however they could grow much larger even larger than a human. Acromantula were highly intelligent and formed colonies of their species.

However, acromantulas were extremely dangerous as they were carnivores and although they could communicate with wizard and witches, they were extremely aggressive as well.

Acromantula could form a bond with humans, but this was rare and even if an acromantula was raised since birth, it wouldn’t necessarily become obedient or pay respect to those who’ve raised it. In other words, they were considered untamable and couldn’t be domesticated.

The British Ministry of Magic prohibited any distribution of acromantula eggs due as acromantulas were extremely dangerous.

Aragog – Hagrid’s Acromantula friend

Rubeus Hagrid raised Aragog the acromantula since it hatched from an egg. Hagrid was framed for opening the Chamber of Secrets as the faculty members of Hogwarts believed the monster of the Chamber of Secrets was the acromantula Aragog.

Although Hagrid was innocent and had nothing to do with the Chamber of Secrets, acromantulas themselves were extremely dangerous magical creatures and distribution of their eggs were forbidden.

Hagrid raising Aragog itself was enough of a reason to be expelled. Hagrid released Aragog before he was expelled.

While Hagrid was expelled but could stay at Hogwarts as the gamekeeper, Aragog resided in the Forbidden Forest where Hagrid would occasionally feed Aragog. Hagrid also brought Mosag, a female acromantula(Aragog was a male acromanutla) as a potential mate for Aragog.

Aragog and Mosag raised a whole colony of acromantulas in the Forbidden Forest. Harry Potter and Ron Weasley encountered Aragog and his colony and was almost killed as Aragog only respected Hagrid and didn’t care if Harry and Ron were friends of Hagrid.

Why did acromantulas fear the Basilisk.

The basilisk was the arch enemy of acronmantulas. Aragog the acromantula even refused to raise the name of the basilisk. Acromantulas were related with spiders and spiders had multiple eyes.

Presumably, as the basilisk could kill any creature just by its glance, acromantulas feared basilisks because they had so many eyes, they were vulnerable to the glare of the basilisk.

Basilisk

The Basilisk was a giant serpent and known as the king of snakes. A Greek wizard named Herpo the Foul first bred a basilisk. The basilisk was born by hatching a chicken egg underneath a toad. Herpo the Foul was infamous for several other dark magic and he was also known as a parselmouth.

The glance of a basilisk immediately killed those who started into its eyes. The spiders of Hogwarts started fleeing once the Chamber of Secrets was opened and the basilisk was released as they had many eyes thus, more vulnerable to the basilisk.

This is presumably why Aragog the acromantula even feared mentioning the basilisk as well. The basilisk also had magic resistant skin and were gigantic in size and were very strong as well. The basilisk also had a venom gland that carried one of the deadliest substances in the wizardry world.

The only cure known for the venom of the basilisk was the tears of a phoenix. The basilisk venom was possibly a hemotoxin as it didn’t poison a person withholding the basilisk fang. The only known weakness of the basilisk was the crowing of a rooster.

Presumably Tom Riddle ordered the Ginny to kill all the chickens in Hogwarts because he knew that rooster crow’s were the only weakness of the basilisk.

Hagrid finds a lot of dead chicken which he thought was very odd. Breeding of basilisks were forbidden in England and before the chamber of secrets was unrevealed, basilisks were considered extinct in England.

Monster of the Chamber of Secrets – Basilisk

The monster of the chamber of secrets wasn’t the acromantula Aragog. It was the legendary basilisk, the monster that Salazar Slytherin hid in the Chamber of Secrets so the heir of Slytherin could fulfill the will of Salazar Slytherin.

Salazar Slytherin was a parsel mouth so he could control the basilisk. The heir of Slytherin Tom Marvolo Riddle which was an anagram of I am Lord Voldemort manipulated Ginny by the magics of Tom Riddle’s Diary to release the basilisk once more.

The basilisk’s glare petrified all the students, Mrs. Norris and the ghosts of Hogwarts. All of the victims luckily didn’t see the basilisks’ eyes directly and only through reflections.
