Arnor, the Northern Kingdom

Gil-Galad of Lindon welcomed Elendil as he was the leader of the Faithful of the Numenorians that befriended the elves.

Elendil would make an oath in Quenya "Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien. Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-metta" that translates as “I’ve come to Middle-Earth from the Great Sea. My heirs and I shall dwell and protect this land until the end of the world”.

This was called the Oath of Elendil. After the destruction of the One Ring, Aragorn the third would sing the Oath of Elendil in the elvish Quenya as Aragorn has fuifllled the Oath of Elendil when he was crowned as King Elessar, the king of Gondor.

Gil-Galad would build the White Towers or the Emyn Beraid that would have a Palantir that would be named Elendil’s Stone placed for the friendship between Elendil’s men and the elves.

Through the Palantir on the White Towers the Emyn Beraid, Elendil could search the west and even take a glimpse of Valinor, however Elendil desperately searched by the Palantir Elendil’s stone for any remnants of Numenor but there were none.

The humans welcomed and accepted Elendil and his men that were pure blood descendants of the heroic Edain humans that aided the Valars and elves during the First Age.

With the help of the native humans and Gil-Galad Elendil settled in Eriador and built the Kingdom of Arnor, the Northern Kingdom of the Dunedains with the first capital as Annuminas.

Gondor, the Southern Kingdom

The Faithful of Numenor led by Isildur and Anarion landed on the Pelargir port and migrated upstream of the Anduin River. Anarion settled in the lands of Anorien that was north of the White Mountains and beneath the future territory of Rohan.

Anarion would build a castle and fortress with the masonry technology of Numenor called Minas Anor that would later become the capital of Gondor, Minas Tirith. Isildur settled in the lands of Ithilien and also built a castle and fortress called Minas Ithil.

Anor represented the Sun while Ithil represented the Moon that were symbols of the Ages of the Sun. Minas Ithil established by Isildur would later fall under the hands of Sauron and become Minas Morgul.

Isildur would plant the White Tree fruit that he has brought from Numenor at Minas Iithil that would become the symbol of Gondor.

Together Isildur and Anarion founded the kingdom of Gondor or the Southern kingdom where they would serve their father Elendil in the kingdom of Arnor as the first king of the Realms in Exile, the combined kingdom of Gondor and Arnor.

Arnor and Gondor would together become the Kingdoms of the Dunedain, the descendants of the Edain human and Numenor.

The Realms in Exile, The Kingdoms of the Dunedain Gondor and Arnor

The surviving humans of the Faithful led by Elendil were referred to as the Exiles of Numenor and would become the first of the Dunedain, the descendants of the Edain human and Numenorean blessed with long life by the Valars.

Gondor and Arnor was considered a combined-conjoined kingdom where the High King shall rule the Northern Kingdom Arnor and Gondor would be led by a king that served the High King.

Gondor and Arnor together was called the Realms in Exile or the Kingdoms of the Dunedain and Elendil became the first king of Gondor and Arnor.

While Anarion took place on Minas Anor and Isildur took place on Minas Ithil, the two brothers would create the city Osgiliath lying on the Anduin River that would combine the two cities and Osgiliath became the first capital for Gondor.

Construction of Orthanc

The Numenoreans that survived the downfall of Numenor and fled to the Palagir port with Anarion and Isildur would expand up to the region of Calenardhon that was the north green plains above the White Mountains. Calendardhon would later become the lands of Rohan as the Dunedain kingdom Gondor would later gift this land for the dedication of the Rohirrim.

The junction between the end tip of the Misty Mountains and the White Mountains where the Gap of Rohan existed was called Isengard. The Dunedain(the Numenoreans) built the tower of Orthanc that would watch over Isengard possibly to secure a land route between Gondor and Arnor.

Palantir, magic orb stones

The Seeing stones or the Palantirs also called Palantiri in plural, were creations by the master craftman Feanor of the royal Noldor elf lineage. The Master-stone and the most powerful Palantir was placed in the Tower of Avallone on the island of Tol Eressea, however it doesn’t interfere with much of the history of Middle-Earth.

The other seven palantirs were presented as a gift by the Eldar(elves) when Numenor was first built. Elendil was able to take all seven of the palantirs before the destruction of Numenor.

Elendil would use the palantirs to communicate from Arnor with Gondor for the ruling of his kingdom. Elendil would place 4 palantirs in Gondor while placing 3 palantirs in Arnor and Eriaodor.

Distribution of the Palantirs

The Palantir Elendil Stone was placed in the Tower of Eostirion among the White Towers of Emyn Beriad that was on the coast of the west of The Shire managed by the elves of Lindon and the Grey Havens.

The other two palantirs for the Arnor kingdom were placed on Amon Sul and the first capital of Arnor, Annuminas. The four Palantir that were sent to Gondor were placed on Minas Ithil, Orthanc, Minas Anor and Osgiliath.

Black Numenoreans

Only a few of the King’s Men were barely able to escape from the downfall and sinking of Numenor. The survivors of the King’s Men became the Black Numenoreans that would continue to serve and worship Sauron and Melkor.

The Black Numenoreans as the King’s Men already despised the Valars and the elves, however the Black Numenorean’s resentment even worsened after the Fall of Numenor.

The Black Numenoreans would settle in Harad and Umbar as great lords where they would oppose the descendants of the Faithful Gondor.

For the Black Numenoreans, the Faithful of Numenor were treacherous traitors that worship the Valars that sank their home Numenor.

Capture of Minas Ithil and establishment of Minas Morgul by Sauron

After Sauron’s soul returned to Mordor while he lost his ability to maintain a physical body after his body sank together with Numenor during the Downfall of Numenor, Sauron has assembled his forces the orcs, Easterlings, Black Numenoreans, wolves, trolls and the Nazguls.

Sauron attacked Gondor by surprise to finally annihilate the remaining survivors of the Faithful of Numenor for his conquest of Middle-Earth.

Isildur escaped along with a seed from the White Tree that he planted in Minas Ithil along with the Palantir Ithil-stone and sailed along the Anduin River to the northwest to Elendil in Arnor.

Isildur’s brother Anarion held the lines against Sauron along the Anduin River while defending Osgiliath. This attack by Sauron would alert the remaining free races of Middle Earth to form an alliance that shall be called the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.
