Beren and Luthien - Slaying of Draugluin and Thuringwethil, Defeat of Sauron

Sauron was aware of a prophecy of Huan, who was once the hound of the Valar Orome that Huan shall be slayed by the strongest wolf. Sauron sent Draugluin, the father of all werewolves but Draugluin was killed by Huan the hound. Sauron then transformed into a form of a wolf and attacked Huan and Luthien himself

However by the powers of the half-Maia Luthien and Huan defeated Sauron and even killed Thuringwethil, the vampire messenger of Sauron.

Luthien and Huan demands the keys for Tol-in-Gaurhoth which Sauron yields and flees. Luthien and Huan would rescue Beren and bury Finrod while freeing prisoners that Sauron had kept.

Beren and Luthien - Second attempt to kidnap Luthien by Celegorm and Curufin

While Luthien and Huan rescued Beren from Sauron, they meet up with Celegorm and Curufin once more. Curufin would snatch Luthien into his horse. Beren who became furious of Curufin would take a great leap that would be called the Leap of Beren to take down Curufin.

Beren would snatch the sword of Curufin Angrist and his horse and flee on Curufin’s horse with Luhtien. Curufin shot an arrow at Luthien which Beren took instead.

Huan and Luthien would cure the arrow wounds of Beren. Beren would continue his quest while Luthien was asleep as he didn’t want to put her into more danger.

Beren and Luthien - Beren and Luthien’s arrival at Angband and Carcahroth

Beren from the sorrows of the absence of Luthien sang the Song of Parting. Luthien caught up with Beren and by the advice of Huan, Beren admits that Luthien and Beren together were bound to a destiny that both had to overcome together.

Beren disguises himself as Draugluin with the skin of Draugluin while Luthien disguised as the bat vampire Thuringwethil and arrives at the gates of Angband.

Yet Beren and Luthien encounters the largest werewolf that ever-existed Carcharoth the guardian of the gates of Angband.

Carcharoth denied access to Beren and Luthien disguised as Draugluin and Thuringwethil. However, something struck Luthien and suddenly Luthien felt power within and hypnotized Carcharoth to sleep.

Beren and Luthien - Luthien puts Morgoth and his forces into sleep

Beren and Luthien dares an attempt that no elf nor human would ever challenge and heads straight into the halls of Morgoth. Luthien would start to sing a song and dance that cast such a powerful enchantment to put the evil creatures and servants of Morgoth to sleep.

Luthien successfully even puts Morgoth into sleep. Beren would take Angrist, the sword he took for Curufin and started to carve a Silmaril out of the Iron Crown of Morgoth.

Surprisingly, Beren was human but the Silmaril didn’t burn the hands of Beren which was a blessing enchanted on the Silmarils by Varda.

Beren suddenly was tempted to take all the silmarils but Angrist broke and a shard struck Morgoth thus, fate didn’t allow Beren to take all the silmarils.

Beren and Luthien suddenly felt horror upon a glance on Morgoth and fled the underground fortress of Angband to the surface.

Beren and Luthien - Carcharoth devours the hand of Beren

However, Carcharoth awakened from his sleep as the spells of Luthien was dispelled. Carcharoth attacks Beren and Luthien, then suddenly Beren held the Silmaril high up with his right hand to lure Carcharoth away from Luthien.

Carcharoth felt a sudden strong desire upon witnessing the light of the Silmaril and chomped off the hand of Beren with the Silmaril together.

The blessing by Varda that no evil-being nor mortal could touch the Silmaril and shall burn initiated and Carcharoth was driven into madness by the Silmaril burning inside himself.

The king of the eagles Thorondor would arrive at the gate of Angband and saved Beren and Luthien while landing them near Doriath.

Beren and Luthien - Return of Beren and Luthien, Marriage of Beren and Luthien

Thingol was astonished that a mortal Beren would manage to survive the journey to Angband. Beren and Luthien would tell the lores of their journey which both impressed and angered Thingol and the council of Thingol such as the defeat of Sauron, the might of Carcharoth, the hypnosis of Morgoth and Celegorm and Curufin’s attempt to kidnap Luthien.

Beren showed his handless arm and asked for approval for his marriage to Luthien claiming that the Silmaril was in Beren’s hand.

Thingol would allow Beren to marry his daughter Luthien. Beren and Luthien married with the blessing of Thingol and Melian. This was the first love between an elf and human.

Beren and Luthien - Carchaorth’s pursuit, Death of Beren and Luthien, Thingol obtains a Silmaril

The Silmaril in Carcharoth’s stomach burned within and put Carcharoth into agony that was painful enough to drive Carcharoth mad. Carcharoth left the gates of Angband in a frenzy of revenge against Beren and Luthien and traced them down to Doriath. After Carcharoth was spotted in Doraith, Thingol led a hunting party to kill Carcharoth.

Carcharoth injured Thingol and nearly killed him but Beren went into Carcharoth’s way saving Thingol while Beren got a fatal wound.

Huan would fight with Carcharoth and perished together fulfilling the prophecy of Huan that the most powerful wolf shall kill him.

Huan left his last words saying goodbye to Beren. Beren while he was dying because of the venom of Carcharoth in his wounds cut off the Silmaril from Carcharoth and gave the Silmaril to Thingol.

Beren after taking one last gaze at Luthien died fulfilling the impossible quest to retrieve a Silmaril from the Iron Crown of Morgoth. Luthien also died by the sorrows and grieves of the death of Beren and her soul went to the Halls of Mendos

Beren and Luthien - The only excuse by Mandos, Luthien’s choice as a mortal, Resurrection of Beren and Luthien

Luthien’s soul arrived at the Hall of Mandos where she would sing the sorrows and grieves of losing her lover Beren. Every being and soul in the Hall of Mandos moaned at the sad lyrics and melodies of Luthien. Even Mandos, the Valar of Judgement became touched by the songs of Luthien.

Mandos does something that he never did and he shall never do again and reunited Beren and Luthien’s soul at the Hall of Mandos.

Mandos asks Manwe to council with Iluvatar on the fate of Beren and Luthien as humans and elves were the children of Iluvatar.

Iluvatar grants permission to give Luthien a choice. Luthien could choose to remain in Valinor peacefully without Beren while she shall forget the sorrows of losing him or both shall become mortals and Luthien will lose her opportunity of living for eternity.

Luthien chooses life as a mortal with Beren and both were sent back to Doriath. Thingol and Melian were both surprised and sad that their daughter Luthien came back from the dead but also chose fate as a mortal.

Beren and Luthien would live in a quiet place called Tol Galen where later they would give birth to their son Dior.
