Death of Severus Snape

Voldemort realizes that the Elder Wand is not obeying him properly and thinks that he has to earn the allegiance of the Elder Wand by killing its former master.

Since Severus Snape casted the Killing curse onto Albus Dumbledore, Voldemort concludes that Snape is now the master of the Elder Wand.

In the movie, Voldemort calls Snape to the boarding docks while in the novel, he calls Snape to the Shrieking Shack.

Voldemort did not like murdering Snape but he insisted as it was the only way he thought could win the loyalty of the Elder Wand. Voldemort was cautious of the Elder Wand so he orders Nagini to instead murder Snape.

Into the memories of Severus Snape by the Pensieve

Harry Potter, Ron and Hermione were at the scene of Severus Snape’s murder by Voldemort. Despite the bitter grudge the trio had with Severus Snape, they did feel some grievance. Oddly, however Severus Snape calls on Harry Potter with extreme endurance and gives Harry Potter his memories.

In the movie, Severus Snape looks deeply into Harry Potter’s eyes and his last words were “You have your mother’s eyes”. Harry Potter was already devastated with all the losses from the first Battle of Hogwarts.

Hoping for more clues to defeat Voldemort, Harry Potter heads to the headmaster’s office and opens up the pensieve and dives into the memories of Severus Snape.

The Dark Hero Severus Snape’s memories through the Pensieve

Memories of Severus Snape – Young Lily Potter(Lily Evans) and Severus Snape

Lily shows some magic tricks to her sister Petunia which Petunia responds a freak and runs away. Severus Snape comes in and tells Lily that she is a witch but Lily was offended by being called a witch and walks away.

This was Lily and Snape’s first encounter that didn’t go so smooth. However, later on Severus Snape and Lily Evans became friends and they talked about the wizardry world. Severus Snape confesses his unhappy family life to Lily where Petunia pops up and mocks Snape.

A branch fell onto Petunia which Petunia accused Snape. Lily was somewhat upset with that incident and walks away. It is unknown whether Snape did that on purpose or if the branch naturally fell.

At the King’s Cross Station, Petunia and Lily once again were fighting each other, where Lily mocked Petunia for writing to Dumbledore for permission to get admitted to Hogwarts.

Petunia realized that Lily and Snape has been through her room breaching her privacy so Petunia grew an extreme grudge against Lily and Snape as well as the magic world.

Memories of Severus Snape – Sorting to Slytherin House and the conflict with the Gryffindor Marauders

On the Hogwarts Express, Severus Snape encounters James Potter and Sirius Black for the first time while he was with Lily.

While Severus Snape wished to become a Slytherin House, James Potter and Sirius Black started a fierce argument that all Slytherin House were evil.

Possibly James Potter started a crush on Lily Evans as well and even felt some jealousy with Snape as he was friends with Lily. Severus Snape was sorted to Slytherin House where he had to watch Lily Evans sorted to Gryffindor House which Snape was very disappointed and upset.

Lucius Malfoy, the prefect of Slytherin House genuinely welcomed Severus Snape as he seemed in grief. Lily and Severus Snape were still friends but Lily Evans didn’t like Snape’s friends such as Avery, Evan Rosier and Mulciber who would later on become Death Eaters.

Snape also argued that James Potter and the Marauders were also arrogant troublemakers. The two did agree that there were some differences and still maintained friendship until….. One day the Marauders especially James Potter and Sirius Black were harassing Severus Snape.

While Snape was embarrassed in front of the Hogwarts students, Lily tried to help Snape. However, Snape out from his fury and emotions unintentionally called Lily Evans a mudblood and said he didn’t need help.

Severus Snape instantly regrated his words but Lily Potter was fed up with Severus Snape of calling her a mudblood and having friends that wished to become Death Eaters and never makes up with Severus Snape. Severus Snape secretly loved Lily Evans(Lily Potter) and regretted this moment for his whole life.

Memories of Severus Snape – Severus Snape and the Marauders

Severus Snape’s grudge with James Potter and Sirius Black started at his first trip to Hogwarts on the Hogwarts Express. Severus Snape had to watch Lily Potter being sorted to Gryffindor House along with James Potter and Sirius Black.

Later on, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew joins James and Sirius and formed the Marauder. Lily Evans didn’t like the marauders and still has been friends with Severus Snape.

Severus Snape however also has made friends within Slytherin House with a lot of pure-blood supremacists that irritated the muggle-born witch Lily. Sirius Black and James Potter cruelly harassed Severu Snape while Peter Pettigrew assisted and Remus Lupin neglected.

Especially James Potter was up front harassing Severus Snape possibly because he was best friends with Lily Evans because James Potter would tell Lily that he would stop bullying Severus Snape if she started dating him once.

Severus Snape was almost killed once when Sirius Black lured him into the Shrieking Shack by the Whomping Willow path when Remus Lupin was transforming into a werewolf. Surprisingly James Potter saved Severus Snape during that instance.

After Lily Evans turned away from Severus Snape after he called her a mudblood, Severus Snape couldn’t help but watch her marry James Potter, his arch enemy.

Memories of Severus Snape – Death of Lily Potter

Severus Snape overheard the prophecy of Sybill Trelawney’s interview at the Hog’s Head Inn. HE reports to Voldemort even though he could have only heard half of the prophecy.

However, he later realizes that the boy of the prophecy was either Alice Longbottom and Frank Longbottom’s son Neville Longbottom or James Potter and Lily Potter’s son Harry Potter.

Severus Snape immediately realizes that he was the person who has put Lily Potter into extreme danger. After hearing Voldemort thinks that Harry Potter was the boy of the prophecy, Severus Snape rushes to Voldemort and asks him to spare Lily Potter.

Voldemort does assure Snape and Voldemort actually does try his best (at least for Voldemort) to convince Lily Potter. Severus Snape was desperate and knew the Dark Lord very well so he rushes to Albus Dumbledore as well to request protection for the Potter family.

Albus Dumbledore ensures the safety of the Potter family by putting a Fidelius Charm by the Order of the Pheonix members but asks for loyalty of Snape as a double agent. However, Peter Pettigrew’s betrayal led to the murder of Lily Potter and James Potter as nobody knew that Sirius Black traded position as secret keeper to Peter Pettigrew.

Severus Snape collapsed as he rushed to the Potter’s house after seeing his life-long love Lily Potter’s cold corpse. Snape rushes to Dumbledore shouting why he failed while Albus Dumbledore also replies he has put trust onto the wrong person like Snape.

Memories of Severus Snape – Loyalty to Albus Dumbledore

Initially before the truth of Sirius Black was revealed, both thought it was Sirius Black who betrayed the Potters.

Snape was extremely more hostile to Sirius Black as he thought he was the Secret Keeper responsible for exposing Lily Potter and the bad school year memories of Sirius Black bullying him.

Albus Dumbledore reminds Severus Snape that Lily Potter’s only descendant Harry Potter was alive. Albus Dumbledore was certain that the Dark Lord Voldemort will return and try to murder Harry Potter.

Severus Snape was convinced by Albus Dumbledore and agreed that all means should be taken to protect Lily Potter’s only son Harry Potter.

Severus Snape secretly makes a vow to Albus Dumbledore that he shall operate as a double-agent between Voldemort and the Order of the Pheonix but he shall remain always loyal to Albus Dumbledore with his heart.

Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape knew that despite Snape was skilled with Occlumency and Legilimency, that Snape was taking the most extreme risk that could have ever existed in the wizardry world.

During the whole Harry Potter series, more than anyone else, Albus Dumbledore would always ask for Professor Severus Snape first whenever trouble was caused due to the strong trust and bond they had since then.

Memories of Severus Snape – Truth of Severus Snape’s murder of Albus Dumbledore

Albus Dumbledore before destroying Marvolo Gaunt’s Ring, a horcrux of Voldemort realizes that there was something peculiar of the Guant’s Ring.

Albus Dumbledore realizes that the strange object studded on the Gaunt’s Ring was the Resurrection Stone. Albus Dumbledore has long searched for the Resurrection Stone.

When he was young, he searched it for his vanity to conquer the world, but after the incident with Gellert Grindelwald and the death of his siter Ariana Dumbledore, Albus Dumbledore wished he had one last chance to apologize to her sister Ariana Dumbledore.

Albus Dumbledore put the Gaunt’s Ring and the powerful curse that Voldemort casted got to Voldemort. Albus Dumbledore calls Severus Snape while Snape was able to slow the progress of the curse, the protective curse of Gaunt’s Ring was expected to kill Albus Dumbledore less than a year.

Albus Dumbledore already knew of Draco Malfoy’s plot because Severus Snape has been informing him of the Unbreakable Vow, he made with Narcissa Malfoy and the orders of Voldemort.

Albus Dumbledore wanted to save Draco Malfoy’s soul and grace as well and as Albus Dumbledore was already dying, he asks Severus Snape to murder him so Snape could earn complete trust by Voldemort.

Severus Snape strongly refused because he couldn’t murder Albus Dumbledore and he also begged for mercy as murdering Dumbledore would damage his soul as well.

Albus Dumbledore assures Severus Snape that such agreed sacrifice will not damage Snape’s soul and Severus Snape must live until the last moment for Harry Potter. Severus Snape had no choice but had to accept Albus Dumbledore’s orders.
