[Harry Potter] – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Summary Part 2 - Lucius Malfoy's wand, Malfoy Manor, Charit Burbage and Snatchers

300x250

After the death of Albus Dumbledore

After Severus Snape murdered Albus Dumbledore, the news of Albus Dumbledore’s death terrified the wizardry society. Albus Dumbledore’s death proved that there is no place, no one safe from Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

Voldemort does ease on the Malfoy family but he still took over the Malfoy Manor as his headquarters. He has casted protective measures on the Malfoy Manor so only wizards and witches that possess the Dark Mark on their arm could pass through the gates.

Dementors started to defect to Voldemort

Voldemort has been constantly convinced the dementors to join his forces. The dementors already have negotiated terms with Voldemort for the mass breakout of Azkaban in 1996.

However, more and more dementors started to join Voldemort while breaking their alliance with the Ministry of Magic.

Right after the death of Albus Dumbledore, the dementors once again agree in terms with Voldemort and intentionally releases Death Eaters like Lucious Malfoy, Corban Yaxley and Antonin Dolohov who were captured during the Battle of the Mystery Department. Later on, the dementors fully join Voldemort’s forces as Voldemort granted freedom to the dementors.

Malfoy Manor

The Malfoy Manor was in Wiltshire, England where Wiltshire is famous for the county where the Stonehenge exists.

The Malfoy family has become one of the wealthiest family in the wizardry world since their ancestor Armand Malfoy settled in Wiltshire as he was part of the Norman forces by William the Conqueror.

Lucius Malfoy used to discuss matters at the Malfoy Manor but felt uncomfortable as Voldemort took over the Malfoy Manor under Voldemort’s control.

Discussion at the Malfoy Manor

The movie starts with Severus Snape passing through the security magic of the Malfoy Manor casted by Voldemort that only allowed those with the Dark Mark pass through.

Voldemort assembled the Death Eaters to discuss important issues such as the attack on Harry Potter around his 17th birthday, Infiltration and Takeover of the Ministry of Magic, methods to maintain pure-blood families, issue with Voldemort and Harry Potter’s wand, and how to dispose Charity Burbage who taught Muggle studies at Hogwarts.

In the movie, Death Eaters such as Alecto Carrow, Amycus Carrow (the Carrow Siblings), Throfinn Rolwe, Antonin Dolhov, Narcissa Malfoy, Lucius Malfoy, Bellatrix Lestrange, Corban Yaxley and Severus Snape and including more attended this meeting at the Malfoy Manor.

Infiltration of the Ministry of Magic and attack plans on Harry Potter

Corban Yaxley was arrested at Hogwarts as he failed to escape during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower. However, he was released by the dementors after they agreed with Voldemort.

In the novel Corban Yaxley successfully casts the Imperius curse on the Head of the Department of Magical Law and Enforcement Pius Thicknesse.

In the movie, Pius Thicknesse appears as a Death Eater himself rather than being mind-controlled by the Imperius Curse.

Corban Yaxley also mentions he heard rumors of Harry Potter’s relocation will occur after Harry Potter’s birthday.

Severus Snape insists that this is a decoy and false information by the Auror Office. Severus Snape reports that on the 27th of July, few days before Harry Potter’s birthday, the Order of the Pheonix would try to relocate him.

Why did Harry Potter stay at the Dursleys all this time but had to relocate?

Harry Potter was casted with an ancient magic involved with love by his mother Lily Potter. However, this magic could only be retained when a person who shares a blood line with the caster existed in the house.

Thus, Harry Potter must have to be fostered by Petunia Dursley as she was Lily’s sister for this powerful protection magic.

However, the powerful protection magic by love only maintained when until Harry Potter reached the legal adult age which was the age seventeen for the wizardry world.

Thus, Voldemort and the Death Eaters could now attack Harry Potter’s residence while they couldn’t before because of the powerful protection magic casted by Lily Potter’s sacrifice and love.

Murder of Professor Charity Burbage

Voldemort floated Charit Burbage in the air on the meeting table during the discussion at the Malfoy Manor. Charity Burbage was a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry teaching Muggle studies.

Voldemort captured her because Charity Burbage wrote an article in the Daily Prophet that favored muggles, muggle born witches and wizards, and even werewolves.

Possibly, Voldemort was also testing Severus Snape one last time as she was one of his colleagues at Hogwarts. Voldemort asks if Severus Snape recognizes Charity Burbage which Snape did reply yes.

Severus Snape murder her over the table with the Killing Spell and feeds her corpse to Nagini for defiling the wizardry society by defending muggle and mixed bloods.

Charity Burbage begs for mercy and asks for help to Severus Snape but Severus Snape didn’t react at all although there seemed to be a little sense of pity in his eyes.

Lucius Malfoy’s wand

Lucius Malfoy’s wand was made of an Elm tree and the wand core was a Dragon heart string. He always carried his wand inside a snake cane that he carried.

Lucius Malfoy’s wand was an heirloom of his family and by wandlore, an elm tree wand would suit pure-blood supremacists in the wizardry world.

Voldemort needed a wand with a different wand core with Harry Potter to use for the attack on Harry Potter. Voldemort takes Lucius Malfoy’s wand and he tests it by using the Killing Curse on Charity Burbage.

Why did Voldemort take Lucius Malfoy’s wand

Voldemort kept Garrick Ollivander hostage at the Malfoy Manor to interrogate him and obtain information of his wands and Harry Potter’s wand. Garrick Ollivander explained the Priori Incantato or Prior Incantatum phenomenon which is the counter-spell effect of wands that share the same wand core.

Garrick Ollivander told Voldemort as his wand and Harry Potter’s wand has the same wand core, the feather of the phoenix Fawkes, the brother core wands wouldn’t try to attack each other.

Voldemort concluded that he needed someone else’s wand and he takes Lucius Malfoy’s wand as he still had a grudge against him for the failures of the Battle of the Mystery Department and losing Tom Riddle’s Diary which was Voldemort’s horcrux (Lucius Malfoy never knew that it was a horcrux)

Snatchers – Bounty hunters under Voldemort’s command

The thugs, gangsters in groups that would even catch Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley were called snatchers.

These were gangsters and bounty hunters that assembled for the bounty on blood traitors, muggle-borns and any other enemies such as members of the Order of the Pheonix by the Voldemort administration.

In the novel, Fenrir Greyback the werewolf was a part of the snatchers and almost a leader of them while in the movie the male wizard with long hair named Scabior was described more as the leader of the snatchers. In the movie, when Voldemort takes over the Ministry of Magic,

Scabior appears for the first time capturing a muggle born wizard Dirk Cresswell while Pius Thicknesse announces a new regime in the Ministry of Magic.

Scabior led the snatchers at the Battle of Hogwarts at the bridge where Nevile Longbottom was defending.
