Aragorn’s Age – Long life of Numenoreans
Aragorn tried to throw away Eowyn's soup because it tasted terrible but eventually Eowyn and Aragorn caught up in a conversation of Theoden's memory with Aragorn.
Aragorn was 87 years old while King Theoden of Rohan was 71 years old. Eowyn asks Aragorn that she has heard weird stories from her uncle Theoden that Aragorn once served Theoden’s father Thengel.
Aragorn informs Eowyn that he is over 80 years old that hints that he was a descendant of Numenor. The people of Numenor were blessed with long life as the Numenoreans were the descendants of the Edain humans that helped the elves, Valars and the maiar defeat Morgoth.
The edain humans were the humans that relocated to the far west while the evil men remained in the east. Numenoreans could live up to 400~500 years.
However after the downfall of Numenor and the Dunedain(Numenoreans of Middle Earth) relocated and founded Gondor and Arnor, the bloodline of Numenor became thinner and the life span of their descendants shortened as well.
Aragorn and Arwen’s destiny in stake
In the movie, it would confuse viewers that Arwen had to choose fate either as a human or an elf as Elrond’s bloodline as a half-elf and half-men would have to be explained.
Thus, in the movie, Arwen and Aragorn’s love is in stake as if Arwen chose her love with Aragorn, Aragorn although blessed with longer life would eventually die while Arwen will have to live on for an eternity.
Elrond insists that his daughter just take the journey to Valinor as Middle Earth is already imminent in falling into Sauron’s hands.
In the movie, Aragorn hasn’t proposed his love decisively to Arwen as he thought he was preventing Arwen’s happiness. Elrond would inform Aragorn that Arwen is only staying on Middle Earth because of Aragorn and kind of pressures Aragorn to leave Arwen.
Aragorn would constantly thinks of Arwen with the eveningstar broch he received from Galadriel although he left her for her own good.
In the movie, Elrond still disapproves of Aragorn and Arwen’s love while Galadriel, Arwen’s grandmother indirectly approved the love of Aragorn and Arwen. In the novel, Arwen had to choose faith whether as an elf or become a mortal by the customs set by the Valars for half-elves and half-men.
Also in the novel, Aragorn already proposed Arwen and accepted Elrond’s quest to recover Arnor and become the king of Gondor and defeat Morgoth to marry Arwen.
Galadriel’s telepathic message to Elrond
Elrond is informed that Saruman has now mobilized the uruk-hai and forces of Isengard for a full force campaign against Rohan.
Galadriel also shows the shadows caused by Sauron that would guard the orcs of Mordor from the sun that weakens them to Elrond. Galadriel warns Elrond that the ring bearer Frodo is also captured by Faramir the captain of the Ithilien Rangers.
Galadriel’s message to Sauron is to give an overview of the movie to the viewers. However, Galadriel’s message to Elrond was also a major discussion between the most influential elf lords as she was asking Elrond if the elves should also engage actively on Sauron for the transition of the ages of elves to men.
Why did Elrond, Galadriel remain on Middle Earth
The god Iluvatar created elves first and then created men. Elves were technically immortal as their soul would dwell in a place called the Halls of Mandos until they recover a body again.
The Valars and Iluvatar decided that at some point all elves should relocate from middle earth to the continent of Aman where the Valars resided and where Valinor was located.
Iluvatar and the Valars intended to let the elves’ dwell on Middle Earth first and then transition middle earth to the humans. Galadriel was a Noldor elf that was born in Valinor, Aman and resided on Middle Earth as she loved Middle Earth.
Elrond remained on Middle Earth as he felt responsible for the evil such as Sauron dwelling on Middle Earth while facilitating the transition from the elves to humans by the will of the Valars.
Wargs – Evil breeds of wolves
The exact origins of the wargs are unknown, however the wargs were evil species of wolves that were intelligent. Wargs usually lived in the Rhovanion region and the Misty Mountains.
Although the wargs appear as rides or tamed animals by the orcs, the relationship between the wargs and the orcs weren’t a master-servant relationship like horses.
Wargs were rather an individual race as they were intelligent enough to communicate with other intelligent beings.
Wargs were rather an ally with the orcs and if the alliance were broken, the wargs would also attack orcs as well. Thus, wargs weren’t rides for Sauron’s army but they were also part of the army of Sauron as an individual race.
Ambush of the Warg Orc Riders
In the movie, Saruman orders his warg orc riders to ambush the band of Rohan refugees heading to the Hornburg Castle at Helm’s Deep. The warg riders attacked the vulnerable bands of Rohan refugees that had women and children that slowed the advance.
Gimli, Legolas, Theoden, Gandalf and Aragorn all had to engage the warg orc riders along with the warriors of Rohan.
During the battle against the orcs and wargs, Aragorn fell of a cliff and the rest of the remaining people headed to Helm’s Deep.
Luckily, Aragorn didn’t die from the fall and his horse Brego that he just tamed from Rohan found him on the bank of a stream that possibly linked with the Isen River. Aragorn rushes to the Hornburg Castle of Helm’s Deep, however he encounters the massive armies of Saruman’s Isengard heading to Helm’s Deep on his journey.
Saruman’s Assembly of the Army of Isengard
The Two Towers alliance was at risk as Saruman has been constantly searching for the One Ring with his spy network on his own.
Sauron already knew that Saruman wasn’t completely loyal to him, but Sauron was also in a rush as Sauron had to discover the One Ring before Saruman as well.
Also, Saruman’s attempt to manipulate king Theoden also failed and Saruman had to take down Rohan before Theoden recovered and manages to unite the forces of Rohan.
Saruman decides to launch a massive attack that would crush Rohan once and for all. Saruman’s forces finally take the Fords of Isen, and Saruman rallies his troops to make a fatal blow on Rohan at Helm’s Deep.
Saruman has even prepared the Devilry of Saruman also known as the Fire of Orthanc that would blow a hole into the Hornburg Castle.
In the movie, Grima Wormtongue would inform Saruman the weakness of Helm’s Dep. Although Grima Wromtongue defected to Saruman, after witnessing the 10,000 troops of Uruk Hai’s of Isengard, Grima Wormtongue is depicted to shed a tear realizing that he was also part of the doom of mankind.
Speech of Saruman and the Voice of Saruman
Gimli, Legolas and Aragorn were extremely careful not to hear nor see the White Wizard in the Fangorn Forest before they realized that the White Wizard was Gandalf. Saruman’s voice had an enchanting effect that could persuade people and tempt them as well.
King Theoden was manipulated by this voice of Saruman along with the constant poisoning by Grima Wormtongue.
Saruman uses his magic and his voice to empower and boost moral of the 10,000 uruk-hai army before he sent them to Helm’s Deep at the Tower of Orthanc.
A new power is rising. Its victory is at hand. This night the land will be stained with the blood of Rohan. March to Helm's Deep. Leave none alive. To war! There will be no dawn... for men
