Journey to Godric’s Hollow

Hermione mentions an incident at Fleur Delacour and Bill Weasley’s wedding to Harry. She mentions that she saw the exact mark that Xenophilius Lovegood had was on Dumbledore’s copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

She also mentions that Viktor Krum said that mark was the symbol of Gellert Gridndelwald, she suggests visiting Godric’s Hollow in search of Gryffindor’s Sword and more hints on the items Dumbledore left them in his will. It turns out the symbol was for the Deathly Hallows.

Godric’s Hollow

Godic’s Hollow located nearby the southwest side of Great Britain was named after Godric Gryffindor as Godric Gryffindor was born in Godric’s Hollow.

Although it wasn’t a very populated place, important characters of the Harry Potter series such as the Dumbledore family, Potter family and Peverell family resided at Godric’s Hollow. Voldemort has murdered Harry Potter’s family at their residence at Godric’s Hollow.

Thus technically, Godric’s Hollow was also the homeplace for Harry Potter as well. Harry Potter and Hermione Granger searched for clues of horcruxes and arrived at Godric’s Hollow in hope of receiving more useful information of the hints left by Albus Dumbledore. Godric’s Hollow was casted with magic that made it invisible to muggles.

James and Lily Potter’s house & Graveyard of Godric’s Hallow

Harry’s parent’s house was preserved as a monument as it was the birthplace of the legends of the Boy Who Survived. There were some scribbles on the old Potter’s house that supported Harry Potter. Harry had mixed feelings after witnessing the actual scene place where Voldemort murdered his parents.

At the St. Jerome’s graveyard at Godric’s Hollow, there were several graves of the Peverell family, Abbott family but there were also Kendra Dumbledore,

Albus Dumbledore’s mother and Ariana Dumbledore, Albus Dumbledore’s sister. There was a grave of James Potter and Lily Potter as well. Harry visited the grave of his parents which read ‘The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death’.

The phrase of Harry Potter’s parent’s grave meant that nobody could avoid death that derived from the Corinthians 15:26.

Attack by Nagini the snake disguised as Bathilda Bagshot at Godric’s Hollow

Harry Potter and Hermione thought that Bathilda Bagshot might hold the Sword of Gryffindor and searched for more clues of why Albus Dumbledore has left them certain items.

While Hermione and Harry were wandering around beneath the Cloak of Invisibility, they’ve met Bathilda Bagshot and entered her house. Hermione and Harry discovers pictures of Gellert Grindelwald and learns that Bathilda Bagshot was the great aunt of him.

However, there was something weird about Bathilda Bagshot as she didn’t speak at all. Harry Potter however could communicate with parseltongue with Bathilda Bagshot,

Harry Potter didn’t notice anything strange until he realized that he used pareseltongue unconsciously and Bathilda Bagshot replied. It turns out that Voldemort’s snake Nagini was disguised as Bathilda Bagshot after Voldemort murdered her and disguised Nagini as Bathilda Bagshot’s corpse with dark magic.

Escape from Godric’s Hollow and the Harry Potter’s broken wand.

During their escape from Godric’s Hollow, Harry Potter’s wand was broken. The very wand that protected his master from Voldemort couldn’t function after all.

Harry and Hermione catches their breath and takes a review on what kind of information they’ve obtained by their memories at Godric’s Hollow and started to read The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore to obtain more information.

Bathilda Bagshot

Bathilda Bagshot was a historian and author of the ‘A History of Magic’, the standard textbook for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was close friends with Kendar Dumbledore who was Albus Dumbledore’s mother. Bathilda Bagshot was also the great aunt of Gellert Grindelwald.

Bathilda Bagshot was the person who witnessed the friendship (and love) between Gellert Grindelwald and Albus Dumbledore, the tragedy of Ariana Dumbledore and the past of Albus Dumbledore.

She kept some of the letters between Gellert Girindelwald and Albus Dumbledore such as their ambitions on dominating the world by the power of the Deathly Hallows. Harry Potter later was devastated after knowing how Albus Dumbledore’s past was.

She became extremely weakened both physically and mentally due to her age. Rita Skeeter fed her veritaserum to obtain information for publishing

The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore. Bathilda Bagshot was eventually killed by Voldemort and Nagini took over her corpse as Voldemort reanimated her with dark magic.

The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore by Rita Skeeter

After the death of Albus Dumbledore, Rita Skeeter published the biography of Albus Dumbledore called ‘The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore’.

Rita Skeeter has written about the inconvenient truth and stimulating stories of Albus Dumbledore and the public enjoyed the gossip of the great wizard Albus Dumbledore.

Rita Skeeter has fed the mentally ill Bathilda Bagshot veritaserum so she could extract information of Albus Dumbledore from him. Rita Skeeter left a copy of The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore for Bathilda Bagshot which Hermione and Harry later obtains.

Harry Potter’s doubt on Albus Dumbledore

After Nagini’s surprise attack at Godric’s Hollow, Harry and Hermione had the opportunity to read The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore by Rita Skeeter. During Nagini’s attack,

Harry shortly linked with Voldemort and he was forced to see the whole process of the attack on his parents by Voldemort in Voldemort’s perspective.

Harry Potter was already emotional but he got even furious and confused after reading the past of Albus Dumbledore.

Harry Potter believed though he has trusted Dumbledore his entire life, he started to have doubts of him after knowing Dumbledore used to be best friends with Gellert Grindelwald, the most notorious dark wizard that triumphed before Voldemort.

Harry Potter had doubts on his destiny and responsibility on him. He was so shocked, furious and started to have doubts on Albus Dumbledore and Hermione had to calm him down.

Discovery of the Deathly Hallows

However, Harry Potter recognizes the picture of Gellert Grindelwald at both the book The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore and a picture at Bathilda Bagshot’s house. Harry Potter realizes Gellert Grindelwald was the person that Voldemort searched and confronted in search of the Elder Wand while Harry linked with Voldemort for a while.

During Harry and Voldemort’s mind link, the young Gellert Grindelwald stole the Elder Wand from another wand craft master Mykew Gregorovitch.

Hermione and Harry both realizes that Gellert Grindelwald was the original master of the Elder Wand and Albus Dumbledore later owned the Elder Wand.

Also, Hermione Granger recognized the symbol of the Deathly Hallows on the grave of Ignotus Peverell that was the same symbol with Xenophilius Lovegood.

Thus, Hermione Harry concludes and confirms that the stories of Deathly Hallows were true by their journey to Godric’s Hallow and the hints that Albus Dumbledore left such as the Tales of Beedle the Bard. They decide to visit Xenophilius Lovegood to hear more of the story of the Deathly Hallows.
