Protego Totalum – Shield Charm
Protego Totalum was the enchantment for the shield charm that could produce a shield for a certain area that would persist for a certain amount of time.
The shield made by the Protego Totalum charm could stop spells and even humans from trespassing. Hermione and Harry Potter would use the shield charm protego totalum to set up a security perimeter around their temporary hideout.
Piertotum Locomotor – Animation Charm
Professor Minerva McGonagall used the animation charm by the enchantment Pieortotum Locomotor. The magic spell wasn’t necessarily an activation of stone statues of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry but it was a general animation charm that would cause the statues to move and animate.
Thus, Piertotum Locomotor spell itself could make any kind of object move by the control of the caster of the charm. The founder of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has made such statues to be animated for Hogwarts defense before the Battle of Hogwarts.
The statues were covered with medieval armor and armed with swords and shields because Hogwarts was founded during the medieval period so the founder’s statue were also based on the war ordinance of those times.
Fianto Duri
Fianto Duri was a charm that would solidify defenses set up by other protective magic. In other words, Fianto Duri was a charm that would enhance defenses that were already set up. Thus, Fianto Duri would be combined with other mixes of spells for better fortification.
Before the Battle of Hogwarts, professors and the members of the Order of the Pheonix would make a combination of Fianto Duri with other protective spells such was Protego Totalum, Protego Maxima, Repello Inimicum.

Protego Maxima – More powerful Shield Charm
Protego Maxima was the enchantment of a much powerful shield charm compared with Protego Totalum. Protego Maxima would produce a much stronger shield than Protego Totalum but both had different objectives as well.
Combined with other protective spells, Protego Maxima combined with Fianto Duri and Repello Inimicum would not only create a shield powerful enough to deflect most spells, but it would even decompose people that would try to trespass to pieces.
Thus, Protego Maxima was much of an extreme and active protective spell compared with Protego Totalum so they both had different usages. The snatchers that tried to infiltrate into Hogwarts with the various defensive spells casted were smashed into pieces.
Repello Inimicum
Repello Inimicum was a spell that would reinforce already set up protection charm such as Fianto Duri. Repello Inimicum along with Fianto Duri and Protego Maxima formed the great magical barrier around Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Salvio Hexia
Salvio Hexia was a defensive spell that could deflect hexes and other kind of dark magic from the casted area. Hermione used the muffliato spell that would make a buzzing sound in those who approach the area and prevent wiretapping as well.
Along with the muffliato spell, Hermione Granger set up a defensive shielded area that could deflect hexes and other dark magic called Salvio Hexia on their temporary camping grounds.
Repello Muggletum – Muggle repel spell
Repello Muggletum was the enchantment of the muggle repel spell that was generally used in the wizardry world. Rather than physically or forcefully resisting a muggle enter the protected area, a muggle who enters the area casted with the repello muggletum, muggle repel spell, would suddenly have some urgent thoughts that they must resolve and leave the area.
Hogwarts School was casted with heavy muggle repel spells with the repello muggletum and many other wizardry world locations were basically casted with the repello muggletum spell.
Hermione catsed muggle repel spell because their camp was in the forest of Dartmoor where muggles frequently hiked and wandered around. The forest of Dartmoor was where Harry Potter watched the Quidditch World Cup Finals with Hermione and the Weasley family.
Dissendium
Dissendium was a spell that would open a passage or locked up objects. Dissendium would make a small explosion like effect once a passage opens or a closed object opens. Harry Potter used the dissendium spell on Slytherin’s Locket but it wouldn’t make a scratch on it.
Diffindo – Cutting charm
Diffindo was the enchantment for the cutting charm. Cutting is used for cutting paper as if it was using scissors but it also could become a life-threatening spell if it was used against humans. Thus, it was also referred as the severing charm.
Diffindo could be used for various occasions. Harry Potter tried to cut through Slytherin’s Locket by the cutting charm Diffindo but failed. Unlike the curse Sectumsempra, diffindo was not dark magic and it had a much lethal effect than sectumsempra.
Expulso
The Expulso curse was a magic spell that would cause an explosion pointed at the direction of the wand. Harry Potter used the expulso curse on Slytherin’s Locket and failed to destroy it.
Incendio – Fire making spell
Incendio or the fire making spell was a spell that could make a fire small enough from lighting up a cigarette or even making a fire that could arson a whole house. Incendio was a very handy spell for many occasions.
All the magic spells that made a fire including Hagrid making a fire at the Hut in the Island when he first met Harry Potter were a version of this incendio spell.
The Death Eaters who have arsoned Hagrid’s hut also used the incendio spell. Harry Potter used the incendio spell to destroy Slytherin’s Locket but failed.
