B.A.R – Browning Automatic Rifle

John M Browning from Ogden Utah who is also the inventor of the M2 Browning heavy machine gun invented the Browning Automatic Rifle also known as the B.A.R(Bee Ay Ar as it is rather than calling it bar)

The B.A.R was a weapon that could spray 30-06 springfield calibers which is also the same ammunition that the M1 Garrand used. The B.A.R was invented during the late stages of the Great War WWI in 1918. The initial model was named M1918 after the year when it was adopted by the US military.

The B.A.R initially saw action during the WWI but it also became infamous as the main weapon by the mafia like the Thompson series, and it especially became notorious as Bonnie and Clyde, used the B.A.R series for their bank rob heists.

The B.A.R was adapted to the M1918A1 and the M1918A2 model where in Saving Private Ryan, the M1918A2 model was used by private Richard Reiben. Along with the M1 Garands, the B.A.R. was responsible for the superior firepower of the American infantry squad during WWII.

Betty Boop

One of the characters the German soldier Steamboat Willie mentioned is Betty Boop. Produced by the Fleischer Studios and released by Paramount Pictures, Betty Boop was featured in her own Betty Boop films and the Talkartoon.

Betty Boop became a sexual symbol during the Great Depression ear but was soon restricted by the new Hays Code also known as the Motion Picture Production Code by regulation. Betty Boop was one of the characters favored by soldiers at the front.

FUBAR

The phrase that Corporal Timothy Upham didn’t know as was teased among the men of captain Miller was FUBAR, an American slang that describes a dire situation with no way out. FUBAR stood for “Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition” or “Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition”. Private Stanley Melish finally tells Upham what FUBAR meant at their last stand of the bridge.

Betty Grable

Another famous entertainer from the USA was Betty Grable or Elizabeth Ruth Grable who was born in Saint Louis Missouri. She was a singer, actress and a pin-up girl during World War II. Especially among the military troops, the leg poster of Betty Grable was famous and referred as the Million Dollar Legs.

Many soldiers carried the pin-up girl poster of Betty Grable’s legs or even paint them on vehicles, aircrafts as nose arts. Steamboat Wille must have encountered one of the posters as he has specifically mentioned the legs of Betty Grable.

Steamboat Wille – character

Steamboat Wille was a film produced by Walt Disney Studio and this was the first debut of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Mickey Mouse taking the Steamboat Bill while making the chu chu sound became a sensation across the United States of America.

Steamboat Wille was listed as the 50 greatest cartoons of all time and marked the start of the animation empire of Walt Disney Studio.

Steamboat Wille – German Soldier

The german army soldier at the radar station where the MG-42 ambushed troopers from the 82nd Airborne Division was nicknamed Steamboat Wille. The medic Irwin Wade was killed when Miller’s crew disabled the MG-42. Steamboat Wille tried to claim that he likes Americans and even hums the National Anthem of the United States of America.

He would cry out "Bitte erschieß mich nicht, ich will mich selbst in Gnade Maria voll Gnade verwandeln” that translates as “Please do not shoot me, I want to surrender, Hail Mary who is full of grace”. He cries out several pop characters and even say Fuck Hitler for his life.

Although he was saved by captain John H. Miller, Steamboat Wille would eventually shoot captain John H. Miller at the bridge of Ramelle.

Steamboat Wille is not the person who killed private Stanley Mellish

The German army soldier Steamboat Wille was part of the Heer, the Germany Army. The trooper that killed Melish is from the Waffen SS. Thus, they are different people from different branches.

Both shaved their heads so many of the audience confuse them but they are different characters.

Edith Piaf – Singer of the French songs (Édith Giovanna Gassion)

Edith Piaf is a famous singer and actress in international level where her most famous songs are Non, je ne regrette rien (No, I Don’t Regret Anything) and La Vie en Rose (Life in Pink). She was referred as the Queen of Chanson and one of the most notable singers of French history.

She was famous for the beautiful music of both love and sorrows. Captain John H. Miller and the squad listens to the songs of Edith Piaf C'Etait Une Histoire D'Amour and Tu Es Partout while they were standing by.

C'Etait Une Histoire D'Amour

 Was a Love Story

I've known some magnificent days.
Love was my servant.
Life sang like a song
And offered me lots of happiness
But I bought without counting:
I had my heart to spend.

It was a love story.
It was like a beautiful party,
Full of sunshine and dance halls,
Where spring courted me
But when stories are too pretty,
It can't last forever.
It was a love story.
My share of joy, my share of dreams,
It had to end
To give me a heartache.

And too bad if my nights are sleepless,
Too bad for me if I cry all the time.
It's the heartache that gets its revenge.
Only heartache is happy.
Really, there's reason to laugh.
I feel like I want to die.

It was a love story.
It was like a beautiful party,
Full of sunshine and dance halls,
Where spring courted me
But when stories are too pretty,
It can't last forever...
It was a love story
Of which nothing remains now.
Someone always has to cry
To make a love story.

"Tu Es Partout"

You're everywhere

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF44uwp1emw

We loved each other tenderly
Like we loved all lovers
Then when day you left me
Ever since I've been desperate
I see you everywhere in the sky
I see you everywhere on the earth
You are my joy and my sun
My nights, my days, my clear dawns

(CHORUS)

You are everywhere because you are in my heart
You are everywhere because you are my happiness
Everything that is around me
Even life does not represent you
Sometimes I dream that I am in your arms
And you speak softly in my ear
You tell me things that make me close my eyes
And I find that marvellous

Maybe one day you will return
I know that my heart waits for you
You can not forget
The past days we spent together
My eyes never stop searching for you
Listen well, my heart calls you
We can love each other again
And you'll see life would be beautiful

Nous nous aimions bien tendrement
Comme s'aiment tous les amants
Et puis un jour tu m'as quittee
Depuis je suis desesperee
Je te vois partout dans le ciel
Je te vois partout sur la terre
Tu es ma joie et mon soleil
Ma nuit, mes jours, mes aubes claires

Tu es partout car tu es dans mon coeur
Tu es partout car tu es mon bonheur

Ecoute bien mon coeur t'appelle
Nous pourrons si bien nous aimer
Tu verras la vie sera belle...

Tu es partout car tu es dans mon coeur
Tu es partout car tu es mon bonheur
