Removed Settings of the Movie
There were many removed settings of the Lord of the Rings during the film adaptation. Many Tolkien fans complained that Gondor being described too weak and many main characters of the original novel Lord of the Rings The Return of the King didn’t come up on film described below.

Imrahil, the Prince of Dol Amroth
The 22nd prince of Dol Amroth, Imrahil was the brother-in-law of Denethor 2nd who married his sister Finduilas.
Imrahil was the uncle of Faramir and Boromir as well. Imrahil and his swank lakes of Dol Amroth arrived at Minas Tirith where he would aid the retreat of Faramir and the garrison of Osgiliath after Osgiliath was overrun by the armies of Minas Morgul.

Imrahil was one of the main characters that led the victory of the Battle of the Pelennor Fields and the siege of Minas Tirith.
While Denethor 2nd’s insanity peaked during the Siege of Minas Tirith and Gondor, Imrahil technically commanded the defense of Minas Tirith and the final charge before Aragorn arrived with reinforcements. However, most of Imrahil’s role was transferred to Eomer, and the Rohirrim of Rohan.

Southern Gondor – Dol Amroth, Belfalas, Pelargir
Great parts of the territories of Gondor were located in Sothern Gondor. Dol Amroth was the capital of the Belfalas region and as the old Numenoreans first arrived at Gondor in Southern Gondor, Southern Gondor held many populations of Gondor.
Although Minas Tirith called for reinforcements from all over Gondor, Southern Gondor faced heavy attacks by the corsairs of Umbar and the mercenaries that Sauron assembled.
In the movie the Dead Men of Dunharrow arrive as reinforcements at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, however in the original novel, the troops of Southern Gondor arrive as reinforcements at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

Why the dwarves and elves couldn’t reinforce Minas Tirith – Attack on Dale, Mirkwoods and Lothlorien
While Sauron attacked Gondor, he also started a campaign for his conquest of the northern regions of Mordor.
With the forces of Dol Guldur and the easterlings, Sauron launhed an attack on Lothlorien, Mirkwoods, the Woodland Realm of Thranduil, Dale led by the Bard, the lord who slayed Smaug with a black arrow and Erebor led by Dain Ironfoot.
The elves and dwarves were busy as they were also under heavy attacks by the orcs, easterlings and the forces of Dol Guldur so they couldn’t aid Gondor at Minas Tirith and the Pelennor Fields.

Swan Knights of Dol Amroth
The swan knights of Dol Amroth were the elite troops led by the prince of Dol Amroth Imrahil. The swan became a symbol as swans were the symbol of the old Edain human hero Tuor, the father of Earendil and the grandfather of Elrond who wielded a shield and armor of a swan.

Beregond, Captain of the Guard of the Citadel
Beregond didn’t appear in the film Lord of the Rings and he was the captain of the Guard of the Citadel of Minas Tirith. Beregond would greet Pippin and he also helped save Faramir from being burnt alive by Denethor 2nd’s madness.

Grey Company and Halbarad– Elite Northern Rangers of the Dunedain
Led by Aragorn’s relative Halbarad, the Grey Company was a 30 men strength group of Dunedain Northern Rangers.
After Rohan decided to muster the Rohirrim and ride to Minas Tirith, Aragorn also called upon the Grey Company to aid Gondor. Elrond’s twin sons Elladan and Elrohir also joined the Grey Company.
Although the Grey Company was a 30 men strength group, they were all descendants of Numenor and the elite northern rangers so the mere presence of the Grey Company’s boosted morale of the Gondor troops. Halbarard, however sadly fell at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

Elrohir and Elladan – sons and messenger of Elrond
Elrorhir and Elladan were the twin sons of Elrond and grew up with Aragorn. Ellrohir and Elladna joined the Grey Company after they discovered Aragorn has assembled them to relieve Minas Tirith sieged by Sauron’s armies.
In the movie Lord of the Rings The Return of the King, Elrond delivers Anduril to Aragorn and informs him to head to the Oathbreakers(the army of the dead).

In the novel, Aragorn already wielded Anduril and rather than Elrond coming to him, Elrohir and Elladan delivered their father Elrond’s message to convince the Oathbreakers of Dunharrow at the Paths of the Dead.
Elrohir and Elladan as members of the Grey Company fought in Southern Gondor, Pelargir and the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.
