Years of the Sun – First Age
Release of Hurin by Morgoth
Morgoth, after casting the Curse of Morgoth onto the children of Hurin released Hurin after Hurin had to witness every tragedy of his children Turin and Nienor by the magic eye of Morgoth.
Although Morgoth lost the father of dragon Glaurung by Turin, Morgoth’s curse led to the fall of the Realm of Nargothrond which Morgoth couldn’t find at first.
Morgoth released Hurin in expectation that his wrath and mental breakdown would help Morgoth find the last kingdom of the elves Doriath and Gondolin.
As Morgoth’s expectation, Hurin would find the Nauglamir from the ruins of Nargothrond that sparks the perish of Doriath and he indirectly gave out the approximate location of Gondolin out of anguish.
Hurin's curse on Gondolin and Turgon
Hurin tried to return to Hithlum and Dor-Lomin, however the Easterlings have harassed the lands of his old territory. Hurin in desperation would trace his memories of when he visited Gondolin with his brother Huor.
Hurin was on an eagle when he visited Gondolin so he never knew of the secret entrance to Gondolin on land.
Hurin came to the Encircling Mountains and asked for entrance into Gondolin which Turgon refused as Turgon wanted to keep the confidentiality of Gondolin from Morgoth after Narogthrond fell when its location was exposed.
Hurin was furious that the cost for securing the retreat of Turgon and Gondolin cost his brother Huor’s life and he was cursed to witness every moment of the tragedy his son Turin spread and even the incest of his son and daughter Turin and Nienor.
Hurin would curse and scream at Gondolin and Morgoth received clue of the approximate location of Gondolin thanks to the screeches and curses of Hurin. Hurin left for Brethil while Turgon sent the eagles to let Hurin in later but Turgon was already too late.
Morwen’s death and Brethil
Hurin would head to Brethil where his son Turin had killed himself after slaying Glaurung once he heard of his incest with his sister Nienor.
Cabed-en-Aras was now named Cabed Naeramarth, the Leap of Doom as everyone feared the tragedy of Nienor and Turin after Nienor killed herself at Cabed-en-Aras.
Hurin found his wife Morwen who was lost in the dragon fog by Glaurung and has been constantly searching for her children in front of Turin’s grave at Cabed Naeramarth. Morwen shortly passed away and Hurin dug a grave for her where her son also resided.
Hurin moaned of the tragedy of his family (Nienor didn’t even have her corpse but only her name marked on Hurin’s grave as she killed herself at Cabed-en-Aras but her corpse was never found).
Hurin found the remaining men of House of Haleth at Brethil but he spoiled them and made them fight against one and another. The House of Haleth was almost annihilated by the conflict that Hurin caused.
The Fall of Gondolin - Escape of Tuor to the coasts of the Belegaer Sea and Vision by Ulmo
Meanwhile Tuor, the son of Huor has been suffering as a slave to the Easterlings after he parted from Annael the elf that took Tuor in while they were heading to the Isles of Balar where Cirdan and Gil-Galad resided.
Tuor escaped Hithlum and heads to the Belegaer Sea to the west and becomes the first human ever to reach the Belegaer Sea.
The Valar of the sea Ulmo would greet Tuor and Ulmo would designate Tuor as a messenger. Ulmo gave Tuor a vision that Gondolin is in desperate danger and orders Tuor to quickly head to Gondolin to save the fate of Middle Earth.
Hurin kills Mim, Nauglamir and Nargothrond
Hurin would track the trails of his son Turin’s journey down to the ruins of the Realm of Nargothrond which was abandoned by both the elves and the forces of Morgoth after Orodreth’s death and the death of the father of dragons Glaurung.
Hurin found the petty-dwarf Mim at Nargothrond as Mim was taking the treasures from the ruins of Nargothrond. Hurin would kill Mim on sight as Mim caused the death of Beleg and twisted Turin’s fate to come to Nargothrond and cause the fall of Narogthornd.
Mim on his death would curse Hurin and the treasures of Nargothrond. Hurin from the piles of treasure at Nargothrond noticed a beautiful jewel necklace which was the Nauglamir.
The Nauglamir was a gift and a masterpiece by the dwarves of the Blue Mountains to Finrod as a token of their good relationship and great business. Hurin takes the Nauglamir with hatred and heads to Doriath.
Hurin, Nauglamir and Thingol
Hurin reached the borders of Doriath and Melian allowed him to enter the Girdle of Melian which was the power that concealed Doriath and limited access to outsiders.
Hurin already heartbroken twisted and in despair would throw the Nauglamir to Thingol as he sarcastically thanked Thingol for taking his son Turin as a foster child.Hurin thought that Thingol was also responsible for the tragedy of Turin. Despite the rude attitude of Hurin,
Thingol didn’t respond but Melian would gently scold Hurin’s rude attitude and carefully informed Hurin of the evil plot and curses that Morgoth had made.
Hurin would reconcile his actions for his rude behavior and his attitude against Thingol and Melian and picked up the Nauglamir and politely handed the Nauglamir to Thingol as a gift and tribute.
Thingol accepted Nauglamir from Hurin while Hurin left Doriath. Doriath eventually threw himself into the Belegaer Sea as he was void and had no hope to live on.
Thingol and the Nauglamir
Thingol would gaze at the beauty of the Nauglamir that was forged by the jewels of Valinor which Thingol never went to. Thingol starts to develop an obsession with the Nauglamir and the Silmaril that Beren and Luthien retrieved long ago.
The sons of Fenoar have been constantly writing letters to return the Silmaril to them which Thingol ignored. Yet, Thingol never knew that the Nauglamir would cause the perish of his kingdom Doraith.
