Albus Dumbledore’s third private lesson – Morfin Gaunt’s memories
Tom Marvolo Riddle finds and visits the Gaunt Shack and meets his uncle Morfin Gaunt. Morfin Gaunt mistook him as Tom Riddle Senior and almost attacked him but Tom Marvolo Riddle or Voldemort speaks parsel tongue and proves he is a bloodline of the Gaunt family.
After a conversation between Morfin Gaunt and Tom Marvolo Riddle, Morfin Gaunt blacks out. Later on he is arrested for the murder of the Riddle family including Tom Riddle Senior, Voldemort’s father.
Morfin Gaunt tells Voldemort the story of parents – Merope Gaunt and Tom Riddle Senior
Morfin Gaunt returned to the Gaunt Shack after he was imprisoned in Azkaban. His father Marvolo Gaunt was released earlier from Azkaban but was found dead at the Gaunt Shack. Morfin Gaunt discovers that Merope Gaunt has ran away and sold Slytherin’s Locket as well.
One day, 16-year-old Tom Marvolo Riddle, Voldemort enters the Gaunt Shack. Morfin Gaunt mistakes him as the dreaded Tom Riddle Senior that Merope Gaunt admired and tried to attack him.
However, Voldemort presents parsel tongue and proved that he was Merope Gaunt’s son and was part of the Gaunt bloodline. Morfin Gaunt tells the stories of Merope Gaunt and the Gaunt House to Voldemort.
Tom Marvolo Riddle became furious when he heard that his father was a muggle. He was also outrageous that his father, a muggle would abandon his mother who was a witch.
Murder of the Riddle Family & Imprisonment of Morfin Gaunt
Morfin Gaunt blacks out after Voldemort became furious of the truth of his parents and of the fact that Tom Riddle Senior, a muggle would abandon his witch mother.
The Riddle family that resided at the Riddle House at Little Hangleton were all murdered including Tom Riddle Senior, Thomas Riddle and Mary Riddle, the whole paternal family of Voldemort.
The Ministry of Magic found that Morfin Gaunt’s wand casted the Death Cruse and as he already committed an attack on the Riddle family before, Morfin Gaunt was reimprisoned into Azkaban for charges of the murder of the Riddle family.
Truth of the Riddle Family massacre
Voldemort stunned his uncle Morfin Gaunt, took his wand and headed to the Riddle House. Tom Marvolo Riddle or Voldemort couldn’t stand the fact that an inferior muggle would dare abandon a witch.
The fact that his father Tom Riddle Senior abandoned his mother and left him at the orphanage greatly damaged the pride and self-esteem of Voldemort.
Tom Marvolo Riddle murdered the whole Riddle family and casted a memory charm onto Morfin Gaunt. Tom Marvolo Riddle also recognized the Gaunt’s Ring and stole it as well.
The muggle gardener of the Riddle House Frank Bryce was suspected as the murder of the Riddle family as they’ve mysteriously died without a certain death cause. Morfin Gaunt was framed for the murder of the muggle Riddle family and died in Azkaban.

Horace Slughorn faked his memories because he was afraid that he might have given Voldemort to key information to immortality, the Horcrux magic. Horace Slughorn felt guilty and concealed his memories to avoid the ethical blame against him.
One day at a Slug Club meeting, Tom Marvolo Riddle or Voldemort presents crystalized pineapples, Horace Slughorn’s favorite snack as he asked of the retirement of Professor Galatea Merrythought and later on Horace Slughorn’s opinion on multiple Horcruxes.
Voldemort was interested in becoming the next professor for the Defense Against the Dark Arts which his why he asked for Galatea Merrythought’s retirement. Harry Potter retrieves the real memories of Horace Slughorn after Aragog’s Funeral.

Tom Marvolo Riddle started working at Borgin and Burkes. He manages a regular customer named Hepzibah Smith who would bring her house-elf Hokey along while bragging of her collection. One day, Hepzibah Smith brags of a certain locket that she has obtained from a woman in rags.
She also mentions among her collection there is Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup to Tom Marvolo Riddle, Voldemort. She shows both Slytherin’s Locket and Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup that Hokey was carrying to Voldemort which Voldemort grins back with a red glance from his eyes.
Voldemort/Tom Marvolo Riddle after Hogwarts
Tom Marvolo Riddle or Lord Voldemort excelled in academics, was the prefect for Slytherin House, and even head boy as well. Everyone from Hogwarts had great expectations on him. However, Tom Marvolo Riddle or Voldemort acquired a job at Borgin and Burkes.
Horace Slughorn recalled that he was especially disappointed of Tom Marvolo Riddle’s career path as Voldemort in his school years was such an excellent wizard.
Hepzibah Smith and Hokey
Hokey was a very loyal house-elf to Hepzibah Smith. Hepzibah Smith was a wealthy witch who was possibly a descendant of Helga Hufflepuff. Hepzibah held possession of Slytherin’s Locket that Voldemort’s mother have sold to Borgin and Burkes.
She also had Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup. Hepzibah Smith was an important and regular client for Borgin and Burkes.
Tom Marvolo Riddle would often even bring her flowers and smile with his good looks which delighted Hepzibah Smith. However, once Tom Marvolo Riddle confirmed that Hepzibah Smith held Slytherin’s Locket and Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup, he makes an evil charming smirk…
Why did Voldemort work at Borgin and Burkes? – Hepzibah Smith’s murder
After several days later since Tom Marvolo Riddle or Voldemort witnessed Slytherin’s Locket and Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup, Hepzibah Smith was murdered by her house-elf Hokey.
Hepzibah Smith’s cocoa was poisoned while the old house-elf Hokey was dreadful and confused that she would make such a mistake. The Smith Family finds out that Slytherin’s Locket and Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup was rogue.
Also, Tom Marvolo Riddle quitted Borgin and Burkes just before word of the tragedy of Hepzibah Smith’s death spread out. Like Morfin Gaunt, Tom Marvolo Riddle or Voldemort murdered Hepzibah Smith and framed it onto Hokey while he tampered the house-elf’s memories.
Tom Marvolo Riddle or Voldemort chose to work at Borgin and Burkes because he was after the artefacts of the founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Especially Voldemort or Tom Marvolo Riddle was keen that Slytherin’s Locket would come back to Borgin and Burkes where his mother sold Slytherin’s Locket for mere 10 galleons.
Tom Marvolo Riddle or Voldemort thought that especially as Slytherin’s heir and by rightful birth right he must have Slytherin’s Locket in possession.
Albus Dumbledore’s fourth private lesson – Another memory of Albus Dumbledore – Voldemort returns to Hogwarts
Tom Marvolo Riddle visits Albus Dumbledore to apply for a job at Hogwarts. He now refers himself as Voldemort while Albus Dumbledore insists he shall call Voldemort always Tom.
The once handsome face of Tom Marvolo Riddle or Voldemort has turned pale, vicious and somewhat horrible at this point that Dumbledore didn’t recognize him by his looks.
Voldemort talks a few things with Dumbledore and now asks for a job for Hogwarts as time passed by after he first asked the former headmaster Amando Dippet for a job.
Amando Dippet told Voldemort was too young back then. Albus Dumbledore calmy refuses and mentions a group of Voldemort’s followers waiting at Hog’s Head Inn. Voldemort was surprised of this and yet feels nervous of the only person that could stand against him Albus Dumbledore.
Albus Dumbledore asks Voldemort on why he really wants a job at Hogwarts as Dumbledore mentioned Voldemort didn’t ask for a job for the pure intentions of teaching students. Voldemort with fury takes off from Albus Dumbledore’s office.
Why did Voldemort return to Hogwarts
Voldemort wanted to raise a personal army for him at Hogwarts. He also possibly in search of the possessions of Godric Gryffindor and Rowena Ravenclaw at this point. It turns out Voldemort did hide something during his visit to Hogwarts at this point.
Also, Voldemort was so furious that he couldn’t secure a job and enter Hogwarts, he casts a very powerful curse on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on the Professor for the Defense Against the Arts…
