Origins of the Order of the Pheonix
Albus Dumbledore made the Order of the Pheonix which was a secret society against Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters.
Albus Dumbledore named the secret society as the Order of the Pheonix after his pet phoenix. The Pheonix symbolized the constant circulation of life-death and hope that opposed Voldemort’s obsession on life for eternity, denial of death and the fear caused by the Death Eaters.
The Order of the Pheonix was founded in the 1970’s and along with the Ministry of Magic played a pivotal role for the victory of the First Wizarding War against Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters.
The First Order of the Pheonix disbanded in 1981 when Lord Voldemort disappeared but reassembled as the Second Order of the Pheonix in 1995.
Why did Albus Dumbledore reassemble the Order of the Pheonix
The Ministry of Magic and Cornelius Fudge denied Lord Voldemort’s return. Professor Severus Snape even presented the clear Dark Mark on his left arm but still the Ministry of Magic was in denial.
Albus Dumbledore was aware that reuniting the Order of the Pheonix would even provoke the delusion of Cornelius Fudge and the Ministry of Magic that thought Albus Dumbledore was trying to overthrow them.
However, Albus Dumbledore reassembles the Order of the Pheonix to counter the threats of Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Albus Dumbledore sets 12 Grimmauld Place, the old home of the famous Black Family as the headquarters for the second Order of the Pheonix on behalf of Sirius Black
Relationship with the Auror’s Office and the Order of the Pheonix
The Ministry of Magic including the Auror’s Office cooperated with the Order of the Pheonix during the First Wizarding War.
However, they were in a mutual alliance rather and independent from each other. However, some aurors secretly joined the Order of the Pheonix for more covert operations and some aurors suspected spies for Lord Voldemort within the Ministry of Magic.
Later on, spies within the Ministry of Magic were revealed. Death Eaters such as Augustus Rookwood were spies for Lord Voldemort within the Ministry of Magic.
Former Auror Alastor Moody joins the Order of the Pheonix while aurors in service such as Nymphodora Tonks and Kingsley Shacklebolt secretly joined the second Order of the Pheonix without the Auror’s Office knowing.
Advance Guard of the Order of the Pheonix
The members that first convoyed Harry Potter to 12 Grimmauld Place were the Advance Guard. Alastor Moody, Kingsley Shackebolt, Elphias Doge, Nymphodora Tonks, Sturgis Podmore, Remus Lupin, Dedalus Diggle, Hestia Jones, Emmeline Vance.
The Advance Guard escorted Harry Potter for his security after the unexpected dementor attack at Little Whinging. Also, as Lord Voldemort resurrected and was set loose, Harry Potter wasn’t safe no more so the Advance Guard was assigned when Harry Potter didn’t have anyone around him for his safety.
Members that served for both the First Order of the Pheonix and the Second Order of the Pheonix
Albus Dumbledore, Aberforth Dumbledore, Severus Snape, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Alastor Moody, Mundungus Fletcher, Rubeus Hagrid, Emmeline Vance, Arabella Figg, Dedalus Diggle, and Sturgis Podmore
Members that served for only the First Order of the Pheonix
Peter Pettigrew, James Potter, Lily Potter, Frank Longbottom, Alice Longbottom, Caradoc Dearbone, Edgar Bones, Marlene Mckinnon, Benjy Fenwick, Dorcas Meadowes, Gideon Frewett, Fabian Prewett
Members that joined the Second Order of the Pheonix
(Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley join later on) Kingsley Shacklebolt, Nymphadora Tonks, the Weasley Family except Percy Weasley and Ginny Weasley(Percy disavowed his family and Ginny was too young)(This includes Arthur Weasley, Molly Weasley, William ‘Bill’ Weasley, Charlie Weasley, George Weasley, Fred Weasley, Fleur Delacour, Hestia Jones, and Minerva McGonagall
Kingsley Shacklebolt
Not much is known of Kingsley Shacklebolt’s past. However, Kingsley Shacklebolt was a senior Auror in the Auror’s Office and a family member of one of the pure blood wizard family the Shacklebolt family that was also part of the Sacred Twenty-Eight. Kingsley Shacklebolt was the team leader for the task force to recapture Sirius Black.

However, Kingsley Shacklebolt believed in Lord Voldemort’s return unlike the Ministry of Magic’s stance and he secretly joins the Order of the Pheonix.
After Kingsley Shacklebolt learns the truth of Sirius Black who was also a fellow member of the Order, Kingsley Shacklebolt updates false intelligence to the Ministry of Magic that Sirius Black was hiding in the Tibet.
Kingsley Shacklebolt was also part of the Advance Guard that convoyed Harry Potter to 12 Grimmauld Place. Kingsley Shacklebolt provided intelligence to the Order of the Pheonix.
\Kingsley Shacklebolt was well undercover that he also accompanied Cornelius Fudge, Dolores Umbridge and another auror John Dawlish when Cornelius Fudge tried to arrest Albus Dumbledore accusing him for treachery after Dolores Umbridge uncovered Dumbeldore’s Army.
Nymphadora Tonks
Nymphadora Tonks was the daughter of Ted Tonks and Andromeda Black(Andromeda Tonks) and she attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
She was sorted to Hufflepuff House and became one of the youngest aurors after she graduated from Hogwarts.
Tonks’s mother Andromeda Black was the sister of Bellatrix Lestrange(Bellatrix Black) and Narcissa Malfoy(Malfoy’s mother, Narcissa Black) but she fell in love with a muggle born wizard Ted Tonks.
The Black Family banished and denounced Andromeda Black from the Black Family tree. Bellatrix Lestrange was especially furious with Andromeda and she despised Nymphadora Tonks as well.
Under Alastor Moody’s guidance, Nymphadora Tonks became a skilled auror. Nymphadora Tonks also joined the Order of the Pheonix and played part as the Advance Guard as well.
Nymphadora Tonks or Tonks didn’t like her name and preferred to be named “Tonks” or “Dora” because it reminded her of a nymph. Tonks was an exceptionally skillful metamorphmagus which meant a wizard or witch that was exceptional at shapeshifting.
Tonks was very skilled in metamorphing magic so she could switch her appearance very easily that was a very difficult transfiguration magic. Thanks to Nymphadora’s Tonks’s skills as a metamorphmagus she could become an auror because she could go under disguise very easily.
Along with Kingsley Shacklebolt, Tonks was an undercover covert for the Order of the Pheonix.
