Lord Voldemort had a very powerful legilimency skill that was a magic that read people’s mind and could potentially even control them.
The Sorting Hat had a powerful legilimency skill as it read the minds of students to sort them to the appropriate house. Lord Voldemort was always aware that Peter Pettigrew found and helped him only because in Peter Pettigrew’s own fear not loyalty.
Peter Pettigrew offered his right hand for the return of Lord Voldemort’s body. Lord Voldemort awards Peter Pettigrew a silver hand which was both a gift and a method to watch over Peter Pettigrew.
Little Hangleton graveyard – Voldemort summons Death Eaters
Once Lord Voldemort revived his body, he summoned the Death Eaters by Wormtail’s Dark Mark and scolded them for their negligence. Crabbe Senior, Goyle Senior, Avery, Nott, Walden Macnair, and Lucius Malfoy were known Death Eaters to have answered the Dark Mark. Now, Lord Voldemort asks Harry Potter for a duel to kill him once and for all.
Why Lord Voldemort needed Harry Potter’s blood
Lord Voldemort was subsiding on Quirinus Quirrell body but his body disintegrated after he touched Harry Potter. Lord Voldemort while desperately and barely able to maintain his soul realizes that he needs to disable the ancient magic casted on Harry Potter, love.
Lord Voldemort thought that if he forged a body out of Harry Potter’s blood by dark magic, he could finally touch Harry Potter intact and kill him. However, it turned out that finally Lord Voldemort could touch Harry Potter after his return at Little Hangleton graveyard but there were other factors that Lord Voldemort didn’t know that prevented him from murdering Harry Potter.
Prior Incantato / Priori Incantatem – Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort’s duel
Albus Dumbledore mentions Prior Incantato when Harry Potter described how he survived from Lord Voldemort’s attack. Prior Incantato or Priori Incantatem was also called the reverse spell effect that describes a phenomenon of two spells colliding and becoming a stream of magic from wands that share the same wand core.
In the movie, a lot of spells make such a stream but, in the novel, magic always take effect immediately.
While the Killing Curse (Abra Kadabra) is an instant killing curse, as Lord Voldemort and Harry Potter’s wand core came from the same animal, the phoenix Fawkes that belonged to Albus Dumbledore, Lord Voldemort’s killing curse and Harry Potter’s Expelliarmus disarming charm created a stream of magic.
During a duel, Prior Incantato effect would depend on the caster’s will so Voldemort and Harry Potter’s duel turned to a duel of will.
After the echoes of souls made an opportunity for Harry Potter to escape, Lord Voldemort was anguish and realized that he needed even more preparation to kill Harry Potter.
Eventually, Lord Voldemort successfully restored a body by his plot by the Triwizard Tournament but failed to murder Harry Potter because they’ve shared the same wand core that caused the Prior Incantato effect or Priori Incantatem effect.
The souls that Harry Potter saw
During the duel with Lord Voldemort, Harry Potter’s spell and Lord Voldemort’s curse clashed by the Prior Incantato effect.
However, Harry Potter witness “souls” of people who Lord Voldemort murdered such as his parents Lily Potter and James Potter. Frank Bryce, Bertha Jorkins and Cedric Diggory’s soul appears as well and “hold off” Lord Voldemort to buy just enough time for Harry Potter to retrieve the Triwizard Cup which was a portkey to escape the graveyard.
Harry Potter describes this peculiar experience to Albus Dumbledore that the dead has revived and protected him. Albus Dumbledore explains Prior Incantato effect but also clearly states that even in the magic world, there is no way to revive the dead.
He explains the visions that Harry Potter surely stand for the love and sacrifice of those who loved him live in the heart of him and he could earn courage and power from those. However it never were the souls that reanimated from the dead stopped Lord Voldemort.

Bartemius Crouch Junior, Lord Voldemort, and the Death Eaters
Bartemius Crouch Junior was especially hostile to the Death Eaters as he believed they’ve neglected their duties on the search of Lord Voldemort. He shot the Dark Mark to the sky during the Quidditch World Cup final to give the Death Eaters a warning.
Bartemius Crouch Junior disguised as Professor Alastor Moody was hostile to Draco Malfoy as payback for Death Eaters such as Lucius Malfoy and he was hostile to Igor Karkaroff who was a traitor of the Death Eaters. Lord Voldemort was also ashamed of the Death Eaters and even furious that Peter Pettigrew, one of the most untrustworthy, was to come to his assistance.
Veritaserum
Veritaserum was a potion that would force a person to answer any questions with the truth. Due to its powerful effect and potential of misusage, the Ministry of Magic strongly regulated the usage of veritaserum.
Professor Severus Snape first mentions veritaserum as he suspected Harry Potter for constantly stealing polyjuice ingredients for a nasty plot and warned him that he might use veritaserum so Harry Potter would confess his crimes as Harry Potter denied the theft.
Veritaserum had no color nor smell so it was difficult to even tell between water. Veritaserum was a very difficult potion to produce and there were several methods to counter the effect of veritaserum. such as an antidote and a magic skill called Occlumency.
Also, a person who drank veritaserum would only tell what they believed was true, thus their own subjective thoughts and opinions.
Interrogation of Bartemius Crouch Junior
Harry Potter realizes the truth of Professor Alastor Moody as the imposter Bartemius Crouch Junior was anxious to know what happened at Little Hangleton graveyard. Bartemius Crouch Junior was glad to know that his mission was successful but insisted on handing Harry Potter to Voldemort or take his life as Harry returned intact.
Distracted by Harry Potter, headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape were able to catch the scene and disarm Bartemius Crouch Junior.
Bartemius Crouch Junior usually always kept an eye on the Foe-Glass and the sneakoscope which was unusually active because Alastor Moody was actually Bartemius Crouch Junior. Bartemius Crouch Junior’s poly juice effect worn away and by forcing him to drink veritaserum, the truth of Alastor Moody and the mysteries of the Triwizard Tournament was revealed.
Bartemius Crouch Junior’s fate
The Ministry of Magic, especially Minister Cornelius Fudge feared and denied the return of the Lord Voldemort. Also, the escape of Bartemius Crouch Junior would have become a devastating scandal wrecking the credibility of Cornelius Fudge’s office.
Cornelius Fudge immediately sentenced a Dementor’s Kiss to Bartemius Crouch Junior before more intel could have been collected from him.
Albus Dumbledore criticized Cornelius Fudge’s hasty decision as they lost an opportunity to gather more information but he also ended the bloodline of the Crouch family. Bartemius Crouch Junior was the first character ever sacrificed by the Dementor’s kiss.
Bartemius Crouch Junior and Harry Potter
Although Professor Alastor Moody was an imposter by Bartemius Crouch Junior, Bartemius Crouch Junior has become a great influence on Harry Potter and the students of Hogwarts. Bartemius Crouch Junior’s lessons during the Defense Against the Dark Arts were somewhat cruel and hard to bear for some students, however the lectures consisted of the essence of dark magic and how to resist.
Harry Potter has leaned many valuable lessons under the guidance of Bartemius Crouch Junior. Also, Bartemius Crouch Junior has inspired Harry Potter to become an Auror which Bartemius Crouch Junior disguised as Alastor Moody truly seemed to have encouraged.
Prize money of the Triwizard Tournament - Investment to the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes
Harry Potter was awarded 1,000 galleons for the tragic victory of the Triwizard Tournament. Harry Potter was ashamed and dreadful by the prize money as it constantly reminded him of the death of Cedric Diggory and Voldemort’s return at the graveyard of Little Hangleton.
The Weasley twins have been gambling since the Quidditch World Cup with people like Ludovic Bagman to raise funds for their own magic joke and toy business.
The Weasley twins have been using an owl postal service initially for their own business but their mother Molly Weasley has abolished the start up of the Weasley twins. Harry Potter eventually gave a loan of the prize money by winning the Triwizard Tournament to the Weasley twins. The Weasley twins founded the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes by Harry’s loan.
Return of Lord Voldemort and the Ministry of Magic’s denial
Cornelius Fudge denied the fact that Lord Voldemort returned. Already the escape of Bartemius Crouch Junior was a scandal large enough for impeachment. Minister Cornelius Fudge became extremely hostile to Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore after the death of Cedric Diggory.
