Durmstrang Institute
The Durmstrang Institute was located somewhere in Northern Europe, there weren’t many details of its exact location. Durmstrang Institute has been teaching magic to students since the 1300’s all across Europe.
For example, Viktor Krum was from Bulgaria located in Eastern Europe but Durmstrang Institute seemed to accept a lot of witches and wizards across Europe. However, muggle born students weren’t admitted to Durmstrang Institute.
The Bulgarian witch Nerida Vulchanova was the founder of Durmstrang Institute and ever since, Durmstrang Institute became one of the finest wizardry and witchcraft school across Europe. Durmstrang Institute was generous towards the dark arts and dark magic.
Durmstrang Institute was also well known for teaching intense magic dueling skills to its students as well. Lucius Malfoy wanted Draco Malfoy to join Durmstrang Institute under Igor Karakaroff who was once a fellow deatheater with him.
However, per Draco’s mother Narcissa Malfoy who didn’t want Draco to journey too far, Draco attended Hogwarts.
Durmstrang Institute students arrived at the shores of Scotland to attend the Triwizard tournament by the enormous Durmstrang Ship. Unlike the movie, Durmstrang Institute accepted both females and males.
Gellert Grindelwald and Durmstrang Institute
The infamous rival of Albus Dumbledore, Gellert Grindelwald was once a student of Drumstrang Institute. Gellert Grindelwald joined Durmstrang Institute because it was the school that was most fond of teaching dark magic.
However, Gellert Grindelwald has studied the dark arts to an extent that even Drumstrang Institute had to expel him. Gellert Grindelwald would engrave his symbol all over Durmstrang Institute.
Gellert Grindelwald’s symbol was based on an old legend called the Deathly Hallows. Many families of Durmstrang Institute were sacrificed by the terrors of Gellert Grindelwald so many students including Viktor Krum abhorred the symbol of Gellert Grindelwald and were ashamed he was once a student of Durmstrang Institute as well.
Beauxbatons Academy of Magic
Beauxbatons Academy of Magic (Académie de Magie Beauxbâtons) was located in Southern France near the Pyrenees mountains.
While Durmstrang Institute accepted students from Eastern and Northern Europe, Beauxbatons Academy of Magic accepted students from mostly from Southern and Western Europe. Beauxbatons Academy of Magic was founded in the 13th century.
Albus Dumbledore’s friend Nicolas Flamel, the owner of the sorcerer’s stone(philosopher’s stone) and the famous alchemist attended Beauxbatons Academy of Magic The students of Beauxbatons arrived by the Beauxbatons Carriage that was led by a dozen white horses with wings that interestingly only dieted on single-malt whiskey.
Beauxbatons Academy of Magic was more of a rival with Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry more than Durmstrang Institute as Hogwarts and Beauxbatons shared the most wins on the Triwizard tournament.
Igor Karkaroff
Igor Karkaroff was the headmaster of Durmstrang Institute at 1994. He was once a death eater under Lord Voldemort. Durmstrang Institute only accepted pure-blood witches and wizards and specialized in teaching the dark arts which suited the ideology of Igor Karkaroff.
Igor Karkaroff snitched on his fellow death eaters Travers, Antonin Dolohov, Mulciber, Travers, Severus Snape, Evan Rosier, and Augustus Rookwood during his capture by the Ministry of Magic.
Igor Karkaroff was biased on the Durmstrang Champion Viktor Krum and he was an emotional person that couldn’t just bear himself.
Igor Karkaroff would have some secret conversations with Severus Snape because Igor Karkaroff was afraid of Voldemort’s return which was signaled by the Dark Mark on his arm becoming more visible.
This meant that Voldemort’s comeback was imminent. Igor Karkaroff was also a very unpopular headmaster at Durmstrang Institute which even Viktor Krum was unfond of him despite Igor’s blinded affection on Viktor Krum.
Olympe Maxime
Madam Maxime or Olympe Maxime was the head mistress of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. Even though Madam Olympe Maxime was a half-giant, she never officially addressed that she had a giant lineage and claimed to have big bones because the wizardry society still had disadvantages against giants.
Olympe Maxime was a fair judge despite the controversies of Harry Potter participating the Triwizard tournament.
Also, Madam OIympe Maxime was a very popular headmistress at Beauxbatons because she showed great affection towards her students and as Madam Olympe Maxime was a very powerful witch.
Although there aren’t much descriptions of Olympe Maxime’s magical power in the movie, she was known as one of the best magic duelers in Europe and capable of taking several skilled witches and wizards at once.
Rita Skeeter
Rita Skeeter was a journalist that specialized in Yellow Journalism and producing gossips for the Daily Prophet. Yellow Journalism refers to journalism that excludes many factual factors and logic to emphasize sensationalism and exaggeration to provoke others merely for more views.
Most of her journals weren’t real and Rita Skeeter emphasized on what people would gossip about rather than posting facts. Rita Skeeter printed an article that Harry Potter would cry in bed because of his loss of his parents and was in a relationship with Hermione Granger.
Albus Dumbledore was also one of the main victims of Rita Skeeter so he actually banned her from entering Hogwarts. Hermione Granger and Rita Skeeter both had a serious grudge on each other as Hermione often insulted Rita Skeeter which Rita’s malicious revengeful nature couldn’t bear.
However, Hermione Granger discovers Rita Skeeter’s secret for her journalism that Rita Skeeter was an Animagus that took form as a beetle.
Hermione Granger would stick her into a jar and put a charm so Rita Skeeter couldn’t transform. Rita Skeeter was an unregistered Animagus which was a serious crime that was a direct sentence to Azkaban so Rita Skeeter had to yield to Hermione Granger after her secret was revealed.
Ludovic Bagman
Ludovic Bagman or Ludo Bagman was the head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports under the British Ministry of Magic. Ludo Bagman was a former Quidditch player but he was infamous for his gambling habits and avoiding paying money to those he owed.
Ludo Bagman doesn’t appear on the movie but plays an important role in organizing the Triwizard Tournament as well. Ludo Bagman had to cover up Bertha Jorkins who was supposed to manage the tasks of the Triwizard Tournament but she mysteriously disappeared. As a judge of the Triwizard Tournament, he would even bet with the twins George and Fred.
George and Fred’s gambling
George and Fred Weasley were gambling since the Quidditch World Cup. George and Fred were involved with the infamous Ludovic Bagman and lots of gamblers even for the Triwizard Tournament because they were raising funds for opening their own business.
