Amortentia

Among the various types of love potions, the Amortentia was the most powerful love potion.

The Department of Mysteries had a fountain of Amortentia to research the ancient magic of love. Amortentia merely mimicked ‘Love’ and it caused a powerful lust rather than actual love to an extent that Amortentia was considered a dangerous substance.

Amortentia would smell different to others as it would resemble the scents or odor of the person that was most attractive to the person who smells it. Harry Potter smelled broomstick handles, treacle tart and Ginny Weasley while Hermione Granger smelt new parchment, fresh grass and Ron Weasley for amortentia.

Although Amortentia was the most powerful love potion known, it was impossible to imitate actual love and abuse of it led to empty lust and obsession without actual emotions of love. Once the person snaps out of the effect, the lust and obsession simply disappears with an empty void of emotions.

N.E.W.T Potions Classes

Harry Potter received an ‘E’ that stood for ‘Exceed Expectation’ for his O.W.L on potions. Harry Potter was somewhat upset as he needed an ‘O’ to apply for N.E.W.T level potions class and he needed that to apply for an auror as it was a requirement.

However, as Severus Snape became the professor for the Defense Against the Dark Arts and Horace Slughorn replaced him as the new Potions professor, Harry Potter could enter the N.E.W.T level potions class.

However, Harry didn’t expect to register for N.E.W.T level potions class so he didn’t have the book Advanced Potion Making authored by a wizard Libatius Borage. Harry Potter had to use an old copy of Advanced Potion Making which happened to be the property of someone called the Half-Blood Prince.

Professor Horace Slughorn mistakes Harry inherited Lily’s talents

On the first day of N.E.W.T potions class, professor Horace Slughorn offered a phial of Felix Felicis, the rare liquified luck potion to anyone who could make a batch of the Draught of Living Death even if it was imperfect as it was such a difficult potion to brew.

Harry Potter noticed that by the ‘Half-Blood Prince’ all the recipes of the Draught of Living Death were scribbled and modified so Harry couldn’t read the original instructions for brewing the Draught of Living Death.

However, by the instructions revised by the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter successfully brewed a Draught of Living Death. Professor Horace Slughorn was so delighted as Lily Evans or Lily Potter, Harry’s mother was also such a talented witch in potions. Professor Slughorn thought Harry Potter inherited the talents of his mother and gladly gave him the phial of Felix Felicis.

Harry Potter prevails in Advanced Potions Making – Antidote Bezoar

Professor Horace Slughorn introduced a bottle of poison and asked the class to make an antidote within the class time. It was such a difficult antidote to brew so everyone was struggling. Harry Potter saw a memo a bezoar is an antidote for most poison.

It stated “Simply shove a bezoar down the victim's throat” as an antidote. Harry Potter simply hands over a bezoar and Professor Horace Slughorn was very impressed.

Draught of Living Death

‘Living Death’ didn’t literally murder a person. The effect of the Draught of Living Death was to put the drinker into such a deep sleep as if the drinker was dead. However, overdose of Draught of Living Death could put the drinker to permanent sleep so it was managed as a very dangerous potion. Thus, the Draught of Living Death was a very powerful sleeping pill like potion.

The Draught of Living Death required moondew, sloth brain, sopophorous beans, valerian root, flower head, infusion of wormwood, powdered root of asphodel and water. However, this was not the first time that the Draught of Living Death appeared both in the movie and the novels.

Harry Potter hides the copy of the Half-Blood Prince’s Advanced Potion Making in the Room of Requirement.

Spells such as langlock, levicorpus, and sectumsempra were scribbled on the Half-Blood Prince’s copy of Advanced Potion Making.

Harry Potter prevailed in Professor Horace Slughorn’s class and even saved Ron’s life when he was poisoned by stuffing a bezoar per the Half-Blood Prince’s advice on antidotes. Harry Potter mentioned that the Half-Blood Prince was such a better teacher than Severus Snape.

Hermione Granger told Harry Potter to stop cheating with the Half-Blood Prince’s copy as he would keep it with him all times and somewhat obsessed with it. However, when Harry used Sectumsempra on Draco Malfoy and also murdered him, Severus Snape came to the rescue and saved Draco Malfoy with the spell Vulnera Sanentur.

Harry Potter hid the copy of the Half-Blood Prince’s copy in the Room of Requirement. Harry Potter notices a diadem in the Room of Requirement. Severus Snape gives detention to Harry Potter which prevented him from the final Quidditch match for harming Draco Malfoy and cheating in N.E.W.T potions class.

Sectumsempra – Slashing Curse

The Half-Blood Prince’s copy of Advanced-Potion making had various unique magic spells written. Among these spells, Sectumsempra caught the eye of Harry Potter as it stated ‘For Enemies’.

Harry Potter knew nothing of what effects that Sectumsepmra would cause and didn’t expect it to be such a terrible curse as it was written together with spells such as Levicorpus.

Harry Potter used this on Draco Malfoy in their face off at the sixth-floor men’s restroom. While Draco Malfoy tried to take down Harry Potter with the Cruciatus Curse, Harry Potter reacted first and casted the Sectumsempra curse.

Sectumsempra would severely slash and cut the opponent with severe bleeding wounds that were untreatable with ordinary healing magic.

Even Harry Potter was shocked and he panicked as he didn’t expect Sectumsempra would be such a powerful curse. While Harry Potter didn’t intend to harm Draco Malfoy despite their mutual hate, Harry was clueless on how to treat Draco Malfoy’s wounds caused by the curse Sectumsepmra.

Professor Severus Snape luckily appeared and countered the Sectumsempra curse with the magic spell Vulnera Sanentur and restored Draco Malfoy’s wounds and blood loss.

Severus Snape was furious on Harry Potter and he even rashly interrogated Harry Potter to figure out how he learned this curse. Severus Snape ordered detention on Harry Potter for his reckless actions.

Felix Felicis – Liquified Luck

Felix Felicis was a very difficult potion to brew and it took almost six months to successfully manufacture as well. Felix Felicis would make the drinker ‘lucky’ for a certain amount of time.

For Quidditch matches, tests and various competitions, consumption of Felix Felicis was strictly illegal. However, the luck induced by Felix Felicis was not god-like and against powerful magic, it didn’t have an effect. Harry Potter won a phial of Felix Felicis thanks to the annotations written by the Half-Blood Prince of the Draught of Living Death.

Professor Horace Slughorn gladly gave Felix Felicis to Harry Potter for his impressive work although it was actually Harry cheating by the Half-Blood Prince’s notes.

The effects of Felix Felicis were temporary and overconsumption of Felix Felicis was toxic to the human body. Also Felix Felicis was ineffective against powerful magic skills so even though it made the drinker lucky, it didn’t make the drinker invincible.

Events that happened by Harry Potter’s Felix Felicis

After Harry Potter was given a mission to obtain the missing pieces of the puzzles of Professor Horace Slughorn’s memories regarding Voldemort and the Horcrux by Albus Dumbledore,

Harry Potter took several drops of Felix Felicis that was about 3 hours’ worth of the luck inducing effect of the potion.

By Harry’s description, he just naturally had a great feeling and urge to do visit Hagrid’s hut and attend Aragog the Acromantula’s funeral despite the giant spider’s attempt to once devour Harry and Ron.

Hagrid invited the trio for Aragog’s funeral which the trio refused but after infusing Felix Felicis, Harry took his Invisibility Cloak on while Hermione and Ron decided to accompany him by the edge of the castle. However, Lavendar Brown witnessed this and it looked as if Hermione and Ron were walking together.

So, Harry’s dose of Felix Felicis also led to the breakup of Lavendar Brown and Ron Weasley. Also, Harry tripped into Ginny Weasley and Dean Thomas which also caused the break-up of this couple.

Luckily, Harry Potter meets Professor Slughorn at the greenhouse looting on some of the magical plants. Professor Slughorn joins Harry Potter and attends Aragog’s funeral. By the luck induced by Fleix Felicis, Harry Potter successfully obtains Slughorn’s memories of the Horcrux.

Bezoar

A bezoar in real life is a mass of various objects such as hair, stones, undigested matters or plant etc in an animal’s stomach.
A furball of a cat is a sort of bezoar. A bezoar in the wizardry world referred to a stone from a stomach of a goat. Bezoar was a very versatile object as it could act as an antidote for most kinds of poison except for exceptionally powerful poison such as the venom of the Basilisk.

Professor Severus Snape asked Harry Potter on what is a bezoar on the first day of Potions class during the time point of Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone(philospher’s stone) and as Harry couldn’t answer Severus Snape informed the whole class of the information above.

After Ron Weasley was dosed with Amortentia and Harry brought Ron to Slughorn’s office, Ron was poisoned by a glass of oak-matured mead.

The oak-matured mead was originally a present for Albus Dumbledore by Professor Horace Slughorn. Harry Potter quickly reacted by shoving a bezoar down Ron like the memo made by the Half-Blood Prince.

Antidote - “Simply shove a bezoar down the victim's throat”
